Living in Michigan, the most beautiful state in my opinion, is a blessing. While living in a small town may not be the cat's pajamas to everyone else, I believe it is. Lapeer, Michigan sits in the middle of the thumb. This means it is the perfect distance away from everything, including the vast beaches that surround Michigan. Lapeer is a perfect mix of small farm town and bustling busy city. M-24 runs right through the center, separating the town West and East, creating the biggest rivalry this side of the Mississippi, until we combined high schools. All and all, Lapeer is a great town to live in and here's why.

1. It Only Takes 30 Minutes To Drive From One End Of The County, To The Other.

Yes, I said County. Lapeer is a sort of, oblong, battery shaped county, which makes it easy it to drive straight through. If you're looking to start in Elba township to Imlay City, you'll be there in about a half hour.

2. You Are Either Related To Or Know Just About Everybody.

While visiting the local Meijer, you can expect to stop every five minutes to have a ten minute conversation with someone you know. This drastically increases the total time you are "in and out" of the grocery store. While it seems that it's a negative thing, it is actually nice to form bonds with many people in the community.

3. The Entire Town Gathers At The Football Games Friday Night.

Don't expect any less than 5,000 people at our stadium on Friday Night. From the first game to the last, our football team goes out and plays their hearts out. Part of the company may be the fact that everyone wants to see a combined football team perform so well.

4. Our Nearest Expressway Is I-69.

Why is this a plus, you might wonder. Well simply because it is the least construction filled expressway in all of Michigan, especially compared to I-75.

5. It's Only An Hour And A Half To Caseville.

Probably one of the biggest destinations in Michigan, it is easy to get to. Also, it is a beautiful drive with all of the windmills along the roadway. The beach is fantastic, and there is plenty of stuff to do in the Summer months (May to September), including the famous Cheeseburger Festival.

6. Bowling.

Yes, that's right. Gerlach's Bowling Center is the only bowling alley in the actual city of Lapeer, but it is also the best bowling alley I've ever been to.

Although, I might have an unpopular and extremely bias opinion, I believe that Lapeer is one of the best towns in Michigan. Even though there are only six reasons in this article, it doesn't highlight the many that make this town so great.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
