When I saw the poster for the Odyssey Online, I didn't know whether I would have time to write, or if I wanted to write for an online platform. But I am glad that I applied to join the team. We have an amazing group, an active GroupMe, and fun events. We love what we do here, and I should probably share that with you too!
1. You choose what you write!
Have you ever hated something going on and thought about expressing your point of view? Well, this is where you can do that! We may have to be respectful in some regards when it comes to our content, but there are few subjects you cannot write about. I've written personal articles and random topics. If you want to go through the communities and read their stuff before joining your own then do it. Though reading your own might also help.
2. GroupMe keeps us connected
I know people hate GroupMe for multiple reasons, but it is a great place. We joke around, plot, talk, and enjoy the remote access to each other. Other EIC's (editor-in-chief) have also been sent to the group for a week just to see how we communicate and work together. The notifications might be annoying sometimes, but it's not all bad.
3. We are a family
If you have ever played sports, sang in a choir, or been in any group, you know the bond that can take place. We aren't perfect, of course, but we do things together and talk a lot. Let's face it, we all need a family system no matter how old we are. I'm glad to have ours.
4. It gives you a voice
Like I said before, you can write about a lot. And having a platform that supports your research efforts makes a difference. Some of our stuff we have to research, and other stuff we don't. Putting yourself out there can be a great thing and your voice matters here.
5. This looks great on a resume
Oh, you have articles online already? That is interesting.
In all seriousness, any effort towards a future career says a lot about you and what kind of work ethic you have. Besides, why not add something else to the piece of paper that makes or breaks people's futures.
6. Why not?
We would love to have you and are flexible people. There are deadlines and editors comments, but that just makes it better. Every group is different, but if you happen to go to Anderson University in SC, we'd be glad to have you, just as any other location would. Just ask one of us about it if you see us around campus!
