6 Reasons Why Going Home Is The Best
Meghan Worley

This past weekend I went home for the first time all semester. For students who live close to home, it's easy to take our near proximity for granted. Forgot some of your sweaters? Just drive a quick 45 minutes to pick them up. However, for those students who are hours, states or even days away, going home all the time isn't an option. No matter what category you fall into, going home is always a special time. From getting to see family, pets and the rest, you just can't beat a weekend at home. If you're not quite convinced yet, here are some reasons why going home is truly the best.

1. You get to see your fam.

This is obvious. However, it's worth mentioning because your fam is the best. We all miss our families during the hard times of the semester (i.e. hard exams or when you're sick) and during the good times too (i.e. when your favorite sports team wins).

2. Your pets.

Seeing your pet(s) is almost better than seeing your fam, because your family can come visit you at college, but usually your pet(s) has to stay at home. Plus, most on campus housing is no-pets-allowed. So basically, we're fuzzy-fur-ball deprived until we go home to see our favorite animals.

3. FOOD.

Food. All the good food. When we go home, we bask in the gloriously prepared homemade meals or our parents take us out to restaurants that we normally couldn't afford on a college budget. Going home and eating good food reminds us that, yes, better cuisine does exist in the world.

4. Your own bed.

Need I say more? There's nothing quite like rolling over in your full or queen sized bed and realizing that you're at home and in your own room. Your bed is your bed and nobody can take that away from you. Plus, you can sleep all day and not be an annoyance to your roommate.

5. Rest.

Sometimes we just need to get away from the busy college life for a weekend and rest. Going home is perfect for all the reasons listed above. Your parents probably aren't going to peer pressure you into going out on a Saturday night, so when you need a weekend to catch up on your favorite shows and get ahead in your school work, going home is the perfect nice fix.

6. You get excited to see your family again before you leave.

When I went home this weekend, I just couldn't wait to come back for Christmas break—especially with the tree up and house decorated with Christmas garb. It's called the most wonderful time of the year for a reason and going home ignited my excitement to catch up with my family and relax in front of the fire with a cup of cocoa.

Amidst all of the chaos in school, as college students, we sometime forget about how much we really miss our family back at home. Going home is such a nice refresher and no matter how near or far, it's always special.

Now that Halloween is over, it's time to focus on the Holiday Season. Don't get me wrong, I think Thanksgiving is great and can't wait for it, but nothing gives me greater joy than watching Freeform's 25 Days of Christmas, lighting peppermint scented candles, decking the halls, and baking gingerbread cookies. So while we approach the greatest time of the year, let's watch the 15 best Christmas movies of all time.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

Being pre-med is quite a journey. It’s not easy juggling school work, extracurricular activities, volunteering, shadowing, research, and MCAT prep all at the same time. High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
