I want to begin by saying that overall I really enjoy owning an Apple Watch. But just like every other product I own (especially Apple products), I don’t love everything about it. I do love the notifications, reminders to move every hour, and guidance when using maps. But there are a few key things that I think Apple could improve in their upcoming models and software updates. Until these updates happen here are the six things that cause a small amount of hatred for my Apple Watch.
1. Battery Life
When I owned a FitBit, I could wear it for days and not have to charge it. But with my Apple Watch, I have to charge it every single night. This means no sleep tracking or silent alarms to wake me up in the morning. While Apple Watches do have more features than other fitness trackers, it would be nice to go a few days without having to stop and charge.
2. Active Calories
In tracking your movement Apple Watch only displays your “active” calories burned, not your total calories burned. So when you’re having a lazy day or when you miss a workout you essentially look like you have done nothing all day. It may be simple but looking down and thinking you have only burned 200 calories is not a fun feeling.
3. Limited Workout Options
When going into the fitness app you are only given a few options for what workout you are preparing to do. If you are sticking to the basic walking, running, biking or swimming you will be fine. But for the rest of us that consistently attend barre, yoga or pilates classes we are left recording our workouts under the “Other” option.
4. No Connection To 3rd Party Music Apps
While Apple Watch will connect to your music purchased through iTunes, you have no control over your music on other apps such as Spotify or SoundCloud. It would be so nice to be able to control Spotify by a simple tap on of my watch when I don't have my phone in my hand.
5. Limited Apps
Going off of Spotify and SoundCloud, Apple Watch doesn’t offer an extensive amount of third-party apps. I am still waiting for the day where I can scroll through Instagram or open a Snapchat on my watch.
6. Price
Luckily, I got my Apple Watch as a birthday present (and I am super grateful for it) because there is no way I personally would pay full price for it. Especially with other fitness trackers doing almost the same things for a fraction of the cost.
Overall do I love my Apple Watch? Yes!
Do some aspects of the Apple Watch drive me crazy? Of course, they do!
