I admit, this article may sound like propaganda. “Of course she’s telling us to write — she’s a writer!” But hear me out on this. You may find yourself inspired by these six awesome reasons to write
1. To order your thoughts
A daily journal can be very therapeutic. It could also be an awesome time capsule that you look at in a few months or even years in nostalgia. Even if you only write a little bit every day, the result can help clear your head and prepare you for the next day.
2. To make grand gestures
Since when did writing letters go out of style? There’s just something so personal and unique about handwriting that words on a screen can’t express. And letters don’t have to be exclusive to lovers — a handwritten letter to a friend or family member is an excellent way to express how much you care for them.
3. To have a creative outlet
Just like an athlete has leg day, so should everyone have twenty minutes a day at least to exercise their brains. Writing is an exercise that anyone can do with just a pen and paper. It's also an excellent way to work out your creative muscles. The world needs more creators anyway; why not become one of them?
4. To get better at something
No one is going to be Shakespeare the first time they pick up a pen or sit at the computer. But for me the most satisfying thing about writing is reading my work from a few years ago and thanking God and my own perseverance that I don’t write like that anymore.
5. To impress your friends
If you write, you’ll end up using a thesaurus. If you use a thesaurus, you can say you use a thesaurus. Your friends, coworkers, and family’s minds will be blown. Plus you can use all those fancy new words you learned in conversation.
6. To give life to something
There are entire worlds that exist in your mind that no one else can even imagine. Write them down and share them with the world — I promise you they’re worth it. It can be something that’s three pages long or three hundred. It’s still something that wouldn’t have existed if you hadn’t sat down and took the time to bring it to life.
Now that I’ve made my argument, are you ready to change your life?
