Negative temperatures, wind chill, frozen hair while walking to class, oh and lets not forget your heat bill making its first appearance! Even those these things are not so exciting, you should really consider yourself lucky to live in a 4 season state! You get to experience every type of lifestyle around the world! The rainy spring, scorching summer, chilly fall, AND frostbiten winter! Okay okay, with all sarcasm and jokes aside we should really take time to appreciate winter for these reasons.

1. You have a real excuse to skip class!!!!!

I mean, not like you ever need one but this is a legit one! Finally professors will expect lesser and lesser students to not be at class. Do you live 10 mins from the building, is it 10 degrees outside with a -30 wind chill? STAY IN BED girl!

2. After finals, time off school to focus on yourself!

Weather your goals are becoming emotionally confident, working on losing weight, or catching up on some sleep, you have the time to do it. You can dedicate some much needed time to do these things before spring semester starts. Change something about you so others are like "DAMN girl your confidence is radiating!"

3. December means winter break!!!!!!!

December for students means a break! Going home for the holidays means home cooked meals, family parties, and presents! It was a long looong fall semester, am i right? We could all use a good month off to relax, catch up on sleep, and spend time with family. But we can't have christmas presents without freezing temperatures and snow now can we??

4. Free time to make some real money!

When finals are finally over you will have all the time in the world to pick up more hours at work! Also, lets not forget about the hours your boss needs you to work during the holidays while people are christmas shopping! Even though its not the funniest thought, hey you need the money!

5.Cuffing season is here!!

Cold temperatures means you need someone to do cute holiday things with like iceskating or snowman building. It means you need someone to make hot chocolate and watch a Harry Potter marathon with when it's snowing! So cuddle up to your favorite person and experience the winter love!

6. Finally, you can experience the giving season!

With all jokes aside, winter is beautiful! Snowfall, lakes freezing over, the lights all around the city, people around you becoming more charitable. Its a season of love and giving and it's something we need more of these days. So enjoy the cold to appreciate the warm seasons and give give give.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
