Odds are if someone makes a negative comment about me "completely forgetting about Thanksgiving" as I rock out to the entire Mariah Carey Christmas album I will sassily respond with "well bah hum-BUG." I will watch The Grinch time and time again the second that Starbucks releases the red cups in my christmas pajama pants (the matching shirt was too much, even for me). Here are reasons why some people should just shut their mouths and allow me to be as holly as well as jolly as I please.
1. "Happy Holidays"
"Happy Holidays" is a common phrase that many people say if they want to be politically correct and not say "Merry Christmas" in fear of forgetting Hanukkah or Kwanzaa. However, this also includes another very popular Christmas-related holiday, New Years and wait- what is that? THANKSGIVING!
2. Fall Y'all
Late August, September, October, into early November fall is life! I will be sipping my pumpkin spice latte being as basic as I can possibly be. However I have about 11 weeks to wear the best fall outfits my closet will provide and only four to rock my Christmas sweater, so if a week or two before thanksgiving I want to eagerly wake up every morning hoping to see a fresh blanket of snow outside my window and christmas lights on every tree, let me have it.
3. Society does not help much
One can only resist the Christmas commercials, Christmas themed dollar section at Target, and all of the gift sets for so long. I was strong when Bath and Body Works came out with their Christmas scents in the middle September (I did not even sniff the new ones), I still ordered my basic pumpkin spice latte and drank it in a red cup without a single sugar plum dancing in my head. However, it is safe to say when professors start talking about finals I CAN START TALKING ABOUT CHRISTMAS!!!
4. Is it really so wrong?
So what I enjoy Christmas a little too early than most would admit? At least it's not drugs! So what if I want to deck the halls and celebrate THE BIRTH OF JESUS CHRIST a little earlier than the average person! I will still be giving thanks on your beloved turkey day and I will be up bright and early to watch the Thanksgiving Day Parade (which by the way, features the Rockettes dancing to CHRISTMAS MUSIC and ends with SANTA!).
5. Never forget the first elf rule
TREAT EVERY DAY LIKE CHRISTMAS! (And to continue the rest, because I cannot help myself: there is room on everyone on the nice list and the best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear).
6. So many Christmas movies, so little time
I apologize, but how on Earth and I supposed to memorize the lines of all of the great christmas movies in just four weeks. My schedule of spreading Christmas cheer is way too tight so we will need more time for movie watching.
7. I want to bask in the spirit of the holidays
Nothing is more magical than decking the halls and getting to appreciate it the whole season long. One of the best parts of christmas is decorating your room, so I may as well be able to enjoy it for as long as possible! Also if my room is going to smell like a christmas tree, I am going to make it last and deep clean my carpets with "fresh balsam" air freshener from Bath and Body Works.
