Trying to forgive someone is always hard, no matter what they did to upset you.
1. You have to be able to forgive yourself before you can forgive others.
“The remarkable thing is that we really love our neighbour as ourselves: we do unto others as we do unto ourselves. We hate others when we hate ourselves. We are tolerant toward others when we tolerate ourselves. We forgive others when we forgive ourselves. We are prone to sacrifice others when we are ready to sacrifice ourselves.”
Eric Hoffer
2. Make sure to forgive everyone, even if it's hard.
“We read that we ought to forgive our enemies; but we do not read that we ought to forgive our friends.”
Sir. Francis Bacon
3. When you forgive someone, mean it.
“Most of us can forgive and forget; we just don’t want the other person to forget that we forgave.”
Ivern Ball
4. Just because you forgive, doesn't mean you're weak.
“The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong.”
Mahatma Gandhi
5. Forgiveness can be the key to freedom.
“When you hold resentment toward another, you are bound to that person or condition by an emotional link that is stronger than steel. Forgiveness is the only way to dissolve that link and get free.”
Catherine Ponder
Forgiveness is hard, especially if you feel that someone doesn’t deserve it. Try as we might, we are not flawless, we do things that upset people but all we can hope for is forgiveness.
