6 Powerful 'The Fault In Our Stars' Quotes We Can Apply To Our Lives

I’ve read many great books in my life, and by many, I mean many. I have had some books that have made me laugh, some that have made me cry, but not many that have made me do both, except for "The Fault In Our Stars." That book made me do both.

I don’t want to give away what the book is entirely about because if you are reading this and have not read the book yet, I strongly advise you to. Like every book I have read, I have found quotes from the book that have stood out to me the most, but unlike the other books I have read, quotes from this book have changed the way I look at life.

1.“You don't get to choose if you get hurt in this world...but you do have some say in who hurts you. I like my choices.”

The sad truth about life is this you are going to get hurt. You are going to have people say things about you or do things against you. That is life. But, you can manage how much you get hurt by eliminating the people who are causing the hurt.

2.“What a slut time is. She screws everybody.”

I have learned many times in my life that time is limited. There is never enough time in the world to do what we want to do. We wish minutes could turn into hours, and hours could turn into days. When we know our time with someone is coming to an end, we long for more time. The only thing we can do with time is just appreciate it. It comes and goes faster than we want it to, and when it’s over, all we have left are memories. As sucky as it is, we have no control over that.

3.“The marks humans leave are too often scars.”

Sometimes, we are lucky enough in life to meet those people who make such big impacts in our lives. Everybody we meet in our lives leaves a mark, whether they are positive or negative parts of our lives, past or present. The more significant the person, the more of an impact they are in your life, and if a person no longer becomes a part of your life anymore, or they pass, it leaves a scar that never will go away. Sometimes, we should consider this a blessing because it takes a lot to find someone who can be that important to you to leave that significant mark in your life.

4.“Some people don't understand the promises they're making when they make them," I said.

"Right, of course. But you keep the promise anyway. That's what love is. Love is keeping the promise anyway.”

When you love someone, you will do anything you possibly can to make them happy. We do things that we sometimes wouldn’t normally do for those we love. We commit to doing something for someone we love, and even when we sometimes feel like breaking that promise, we don’t. We love that person too much, and that’s OK. How lucky are we to love somebody who helps us keep promises?

5.“The world is not a wish-granting factory.”

The sad truth is we are not going to get everything we want in life. Some things are impossible. We can wish for anything we want in the world. Some of those things can come true, and some, unfortunately, can't. We must understand that we aren’t always going to get everything we want in life.

6.“Grief does not change you, Hazel. It reveals you.”

Whenever we are faced with a tough time in our life, the most important thing when dealing with it is our reaction. You can react however you chose to, but however you act will be like a domino effect into the next event that happens. When a tough situation happens, our reaction reveals who we really are.

The thing I loved the most about "The Fault in Our Stars" is that it is honest. John Green made it a valid point to make the readers realize that life doesn’t have to be perfect to be a good life. Two imperfect people with tragic lives but they still manage to enjoy the life they have together. Everybody could learn a little thing or two by stepping into the lives like the ones lived in the book and compare it to the life they live now. Maybe it could help them appreciate the life they live now.
