With the school year approaching quickly, I can’t help but think of all of the things I’m so excited for the up coming year. Going back to my home away from home. There are many things I am looking forward to this year.

1.Getting together with friends.

There is nothing better than being able to see your college friends. You have your friends from high school that you saw over summer and talked about college life. Now you get to see your college friends and talk how your summer went.

2. Moving in.

Moving in might be the most stressful thing you can do. Trying to coordinate with your roommate and trying to figure out where things go. But the most fun part about it is being able to decorate your room the way you want it. Putting up posters everywhere and setting up your desk so your dorm can feel like home.

3. Living with your best friend.

The first year, you don't really know who your rooming with. After living them for awhile, you either become best friends with them or you hate them. The next year, you get that choice of who you want to live with. It’s almost like a test if you can live with someone out of college.

4. Getting back into school spirit.

It can be football, basketball, or even golf. Getting back to supporting your school is the best. Homecoming is always is always so fun and the highlight of the year.

5. Independence.

Living at home, you have a set of rules you need to follow. When you go to school and live by yourself, you don't have so many rules to follow. You get to be on your own, but also have the staff and friends to be there for support.

6. Diving into a future.

Going back to school each year is another step closer to being your future career. It’s not just taking the required classes you need to graduate, it’s the experience you learn and the advice you get during the year. It’s something that you hold onto for the rest of your life.

7. Lastly, Graduation.

One more year is another year closer to getting that degree. After years of schooling from pre-school to senior year of college or grad school, you are finally done.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week.
