My 6 Pet Peeves While At Work

These situations drive me insane.

We all want things to be a certain way or get annoyed when someone does something in a way we don't like. Tiny actions that annoy you to no end. As you're reading this, numerous of your own pet peeves are probably crossing your mind. Here are six of my biggest pet peeves when it comes to my workplace and why these things drive me nuts.

1. Tardiness

When I got my first job in high school, I was told, "If you're not five minutes early, you are late". It's just an overall common sense to show up to work on time. I get that sometimes life happens and you may be late sometimes, but those people are constantly showing up five, or ten minutes late really get on my nerves.

2. Carelessness

I've worked in several fast food restaurants, so it's not uncommon to come across people that don't care. As someone who has incredible work ethic, it's annoying to deal with people who don't care. People who leave their stations unstocked and a complete disaster really get my blood boiling. It makes my job, and the jobs of everyone else much harder. Not to mention that fact that the fast food environment is already not the best work to begin with.

3. Smokers

I don't smoke, which is great for my health for obvious reasons. I understand that we all have our own addictions. Mine is pop (especially mountain dew) but I dont ask for multiple breaks during my 8 hour shift so I can sit down and chug a pop. In my personal opinion, I shouldn't have to work harder so you can go out for a cigarette break every hour.

4. Rude Customers

I can tell if a person has ever worked in the food industry just by how they talk to me when they are upset. I understand everyone wants what they paid for and they want it made correctly, but I am human too! There is no need to call me names or yell at me over a $8 meal.

5. When people take my towels

I hate working in a mess. It stresses me out, so I always have a handful of towels and rags to keep my station clean. It annoys me to no end when I turn around and I find that someone else has taken my clean towel as their own. Go to the sink and get your own, is usually what I tell that person.

6. When people argue at work

When you work with people, all you have to do is get along. You dont have to like each other or enjoy each others presence. You don't even have to be friends. When there is an issue the best way to handle it is away from the rest of your coworkers. I hate when people bring their personal problems into work. Everyone has their own battles they are fighting, so let's just leave them at home.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
