HappyHalloween October!
Well if your school is anything like mine (or just IS mine) you’re probably in full swing midterms stress, I know I am. But we’re not here to talk about that. Consider this your study break, because while yes, midterms have arrived, so has October! So put on your coziest sweater, grab some hot apple cider and curl up with a friend for some Halloween-time scares!
1. Stephen King’s Children of the Corn
It’s a cult classic. It came from the brain of Stephen King. And it’s from the 80’s so if you’re too scared by modern horror cinema this should be just right for you! If the thought of murderous children is already giving you nightmares, maybe not.
2. Scream 2
If you want to watch the first film in the series you’ll have to look elsewhere but the second movie in this cult favorite series is available on Netflix! If the classic slasher is for you, it doesn't get much more classic than this. You’ll laugh, you’ll jump, you might even scream! (Yeah I went for that corny line, killed it too.)
3. Would You Rather
A new addition to the Netflix pool, Would You Rather starring Brittany Snow, follows a dinner party thrown by a madman where guests will have to make some tough decisions. Reminiscent of the (Booooo) no longer available on Netflix, SAW series, Would You Rather delves into the minds of the desperate all while in an unsettlingly normal-looking setting.
4. Heathers
Can’t handle gore? Detest jumpscares? Well how about a dark comedy about some high schoolers and fake suicides? Many (yeah almost all) of the movies on this list are cult classics but I’d have to say Heathers is the most popular of them all! Not quite a horror movie by any means but dark enough to warrant a watch in October! Plus who doesn't wanna see Christian Slater in his bad boy-prime?
5. The Addams Family
It was a classic when you were a kid and it still is! Don your “Wednesday Addams is my Spirit Animal” adult t-shirt (because let’s be real, she totally is), make some popcorn and settle in for nostalgia, and laughs.
6. Sweeney Todd
Calling all musical nuts! I know you’re out there, and since Netflix (cruelly) removed The Nightmare Before Christmas (it’s okay though, I have it on Apple Movie, and DVD), you need an appropriate replacement that fulfills both your Halloween spirits and your theatre kid antics. And what other musical movie could make murder and cannibalism seem so offhand and easy to stomach? Only the Demon Barber of Fleet Street of course!
Best Luck on midterms! Happy viewing!
