6 People You Meet At Auburn

Or any college really.

6 People You Meet At Auburn

College is all about meeting tons of new people and making new friends. If you go to a large college (AKA a college with more than 25,000 students like Auburn), you will definitely encounter tons of new people, and you will meet the following six people.

1. The obvious freshman

There's a difference between a regular freshman and the obvious freshman. You've seen them on campus. They dressed up on the first day of class. They're always walking around with a map of campus on their phone, and if their class starts in less than five minutes, you better believe they'll be sprinting to class.

2. The girl who is in love with her sorority.

DISCLAIMER: Before I say anything else, let me say there is absolutely nothing wrong with this. I'm just writing what I've seen on campus. Sorority girls are actually some of the nicest girls I've met, and a lot of my good friends are in sororities.

You've seen her; don't deny it. The girl that walks around with her letters on a hat and big t-shirt and her *insert sorority name here* loves the Tigers button on her backpack. Again, nothing wrong with it. I've just seen so many of these girls in my classes I had to give them a shout out.

3. The person you're pretty sure lives in the library.

OK, so they're actually was someone that lived in RBD a couple years ago, but this isn't what I'm talking about. It's the person you see there every time you go to the library, and it really makes you wonder if they ever go back to their dorm/apartment.

4. The person who never shows up to class unless there is a test.

In all of my classes, there is a large group of these people. When you have the first test, the class seems to grow, and you see people you've never seen before. Some of them even have the boldness to take your unassigned assigned seat, and you're just like:

5. The person you've sat next to all semester, but you still don't know their name.

It doesn't matter that you sit next to them every MWF or TR or that you always complain about that class with them. It was acceptable to ask their name the first couple weeks of class, but now the semester is halfway over, and it would be awkward to ask. If you do end up asking their name, though, you might have a life long friend.

6. Your best friend

This is probably the most important one. This is the person that will be with you through it all, whether it's studying in the library at 2 A.M. or eating pizza in your PJ's at 2 P.M. If you don't meet any of these other people at college, I highly encourage you to find a best friend.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.

1. People assume you are mad all of the time.

2. Ten out of ten times you will give off an intimidating impression to others.

3. People do not acknowledge your feelings because you "do not have any."

4. Constantly being exhausted from trying to smile and not look like a witch.

5. And on the rare occasion your facial expressions show how happy you are, your friends think you are going crazy.

6. Each of your friends has said "I thought you were so mean when I first met you" at some point.

7. Then they follow that by saying "you are just hard to read."

8. So naturally if people do not know you they just assume you are a snob.

9. And when you are actually mad, your facial expressions are horrifying.

10. In the end you always look like you are judging people, when in reality people are ALWAYS judging you.
