You’re coming to NYC and you’ve got no time to waste. Sure, you can spend your precious city moments doing the regular touristy things — Times Square, the Empire State Building — or you could experience the city like a real New Yorker. I’ve complied a list of my favorite spots to hit and why they are worth trying.

1. Mamoun's Falafel

(MacDougal St./ St. Marks Place)

I can’t help but keeping going back for more. Their falafel sandwich with hummus rocks my socks off, and is only four bucks. Top it off with some of their signature hot sauce (available for purchase in bottles), and your mouth will be in heaven (but also on fire — be careful not to put too much). The last time I went, the line was out the door. New Yorkers know where to get their falafel, and it’s from Mamoun's.

2. Buddy Warren Gallery

(171 Chrystie St., New York, NY 10002)

Most people don’t know about the gallery scene in the Lower East Side, but the area is full of tiny spaces with amazing art. And you can’t miss checking out some ridiculously extraordinary art at the Buddy Warren Gallery — a two-floor loft boasting skylights and the history of an old carriage house turned gallery space. Currently on show: Decollation by Barbara Friedman/ Spirit of Gutai by Daniel Rosenbaum. Come look at the latest pieces, chill on the one of a kind antique furniture chairs and enjoy the atmosphere.

3. Doughnut Plant

(397 Grand St./220 W.23rd St./245 Flatbush Ave.)

Everyone loves a good doughnut, but there’s something special about these. It’s like every single doughnut was crafted to perfection, and just for your enjoyment. They’ve got signature doughnuts that are not to be missed — try their peanut butter doughnut filled with banana cream, it’s my absolute favorite!

4. El Camion Cantina

(194 Avenue A, New York, NY 10009)

You haven’t truly brunched until you’ve brunched at El Camion. I’m always surprised there aren’t more people crowding the place every weekend — their Mexican food is to die for. Of course, you can dine there anytime, but brunch is my favorite time to go — 10 dollars for coffee, the most delicious meal and an alcoholic drink of your choice (frozen margaritas here you come!).

5. Battery Park City

(75 Battery Place, New York City, NY 10280)

If you’re looking for a moment to relax and breathe away from the loud car sirens and bustle of people all in a rush, this is a good spot to come to. It has great skyline views and is the perfect backdrop for those family/friends group photos (you know you’ll be taking them). It’s great for sunbathing during the hot summer months or just for strolling.

6. Big Gay Ice Cream Shop

(125 E 7th St., New York, NY 10009/61 Grove St., New York, NY 10014)

You could try several ice cream places, but this one is especially good. What started as an ice cream truck has turned into two stores, now complete with lines out the door. Try the "Mermaid," an ice cream take on Key Lime Pie or the "Bea Arthur," featuring crushed Nilla wafers, vanilla ice cream and dulce de leche.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
