6 Netflix Shows Every Sorority Girl Has To Watch

Netflix: God’s greatest gift to mankind. Okay, maybe that’s a bit of an overstatement, but it’s pretty high up there, especially in college. Netflix serves many purposes to a sorority girl: study break, procrastination tool, sleep prevention, group entertainment, but the most common seems to be connection. Netflix is such a common topic in conversation today, that it is bound to come up in conversation with your sorority sisters at some point. There seems to be a common trend of what shows most girls talk about in college, so I’ve compiled a list, and explained why they need to be on your to-watch list if you haven’t already seen them.

1. Grey’s Anatomy/Scandal/How to Get Away with Murder

These are all grouped together for three reasons. One, they all are part of TGIT (Thank God It’s Thursday) on ABC each week. Now, if you’re watching on Netflix, this is irrelevant, so I direct you to my next reason. Two, they are all created or produced by mastermind show creator Shonda Rhimes, who is amazing. My third reason is that these shows are addicting to watch and binge. Personally, I have watched all of Grey’s Anatomy, part of Scandal, and most of How to Get Away with Murder and love all three. It’s hard to pick a favorite, but I would say mine is Grey’s because I started it first so it will always have a special place in my heart.

2. Gossip Girl

Yes, this show is a bit outdated, BUT it is very popular in pop culture and conversation. This show may seem stupid and petty with all the rich kids going to high school in the Upper East Side, but the drama is what’s addicting. It also helps that it has extremely attractive actors in it (I’m talking to you Chuck Bass).

3. Gilmore Girls

I think what I love most about this show is the dynamic relationship between a mom and her daughter as she goes through high school and college. I found this show to be extremely relatable and I could not stop binging it. The majority of my friends have watched it now, and we all talk about how much we love it and discussed the revival, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, when it premiered over Thanksgiving Break. This goes without saying, but you also need to watch the revival as soon as you finish the original series.

4. F.R.I.E.N.D.S.

This is an oldie, but a goodie. I was so excited when Friends was finally on Netflix. My parents watched it when it was still on-air, so I saw a lot of it when I was little and re-runs when I was older. I wanted to watch it all beginning to end, because I hadn’t seen every episode. I mention Friends references all the time and my sister is obsessed. This is a must-watch.

5. New Girl

Looking for a quirky comedy that you don’t have to think about and find yourself still up at two in the morning laughing out loud? This is it. New Girl has to be my favorite comedy, and just about every one of my friends has seen it. Honestly, sometimes I turn it on in the background while I’m doing homework. It is hilarious, and there’s no complicated plotline to follow.

6. One Tree Hill

One Tree Hill follows a group of unlikely friends through high school and on. It starts off being solely about basketball and two half-brothers who don’t like each other, but evolves into a drama that is amazing. Also, Chad Michael Murray. Disclaimer: this is a really long show, so be prepared. There are ups and downs in the quality of the show but I still love it, and it comes up so often when I hear girls talk about their favorite shows.

There you have it. All the shows you need to watch to bond with your sorority sisters. This is by no means a comprehensive or final list, because new shows come to Netflix all the time, but if you watch these, you are sure to be in the loop.

Happy Netflixing!

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

2500
Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
