Well, believe it or not, the first day of school is upon us. For some of us, school started already, but for others it starts this week. So for those of you that are fortunate enough to have not started school, I am here for you. Head to your local Office Depot, Office Max, Staples, or preferred school supplies store and keep reading because this is what you are going to need on the dreaded, yet celebrated, first day of school.

1. Backpack

Obviously, a backpack or large bag is needed to carry all of your books, notebooks, folders, binders, etc. The most popular ones today seem to be from Jansport and Herschel, but regardless if they are popular not, you need a bag that will last you at least the duration of the school year.

2. Folders and Binders

With all of the work that you are going to get within the next couple of weeks, you need somewhere to put all of those papers. A folder is a good way to start a class, but if you feel you are getting a lot of papers, a binder is the better choice. The thing with the binder is that you can also buy dividers to help organize all of your work. I would say bring at least two folders and a binder to school filled with paper on the first day, just in case.

3. Notebook

Regardless of whether you prefer to take notes or not, you absolutely need one of these paper notebooks on the first day of school. Some teachers may require or strongly encourage you to take notes, and these notebooks are perfect for that. They make it very easy to write the notes how you want to, because everyone studies differently. There are also many different color notebooks and brands that make these, so pick out the one that not only fits in your price range but that also appeals to you.

4. A Pencil Case

A pencil case is the easiest way to avoid losing pens, pencils, and erasers. Just go buy a little bag; it doesn't have to specifically be a pencil case, and fill it with at least two pencils and at least one black, red, and blue ink pen. In addition to this, maybe throw a highlighter in there, because your teacher might tell you something very important. You can also put anything else you like in there, but the pencils, highlighter, and pens are a necessity on the first day of school.

5. Headphones

Headphones are a necessity. They are perfect for those days your teacher assigns a video for homework, you need to work on a project, or you just want to relax. You can get them at your school supplies store or order them online. Oftentimes, the cheaper ones do the job and you are not afraid to lose them because of their low price.

6. Calculator

Almost all math classes require a calculator, so why not be the prepared student on the first day of school? You can buy simple calculators or fancy scientific calculators depending on the difficulty of your class and the required materials stated in the syllabus. Also, as you get into high school, many science classes also call for calculators. You will find a number of calculators at your local school supplies store, so find the one that fits your needs.

Remember, the first day of school isn't that bad. Good luck and don't forget the six must-have items on your first day!

Creating your schedule for the upcoming semester can be an exciting process. You have the control to decide if you want to have class two-days a week or five-days a week. You get to check things off of your requirement checklist. It's an opportunity for a fresh start with new classes (which you tell yourself you'll never skip.) This process, which always starts out so optimistic, can get frustrating really quickly. Here are 25 thoughts you have when registering for classes.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.
