Winter break is a perfect time to sit back, relax, and watch some movies with your family. Here are a few of my favorite movies that I enjoy watching around this time of year. If you aren't sure what to watch, try some of these!
1) The Christmas Carol
This Disney animation is largely faithful to the original story, and I loved the animation because it helps you remember the characters. A Christmas Carol is a classic and always a good choice due to its positive messages about personal responsibility for others and remembering the beauty of Christmas.
2) Elf
Elf is hilarious and heartwarming. It's definitely a good Christmas-themed movie, especially if you need something to cheer you up, but if you're not sure, make sure to watch it all the way through before deciding whether you like it or not!
3) Polar Express
This movie is one of my favorites because of its toe-tapping musical numbers and unexpected twists and turns. (Who would have thought that a journey to the North Pole would be so eventful)? Furthermore, it features Tom Hanks, and his acting skills never disappoint!
4) The Lion, The Witch, & The Wardrobe
The Lion, The Witch, & The Wardrobe follows the story of four english children who leave London during the Blitz of World War Two. While they believe they're traveling to a quiet country estate, they soon discover Narnia, a magical world where it is "always winter, but never Christmas." I loved the music from this movie. It has some funny moments and is perfect if you're looking for something to watch with the kids you're babysitting or a younger sibling.
5) Anne of Green Gables
Anne of Green Gables is a beloved fictional character, and watching this movie, it's not hard to see why. The film showcases her unique personality and follows her many adventures. This is a classic that will never grow old.
6) The Book Thief
I've saved the best for last! From the very beginning,The Book Thief is a memorable film. While many movies have been set in the World War Two era, few have told the story from the German point of view. Furthermore, this movie has memorable characters and incredible cinematography. The beginning shots of snowfall in the German woods almost made me feel as though I was there! And if you enjoy reading at all, you'll definitely identify with the main character, Liesel!
P.S. If you haven't already, be sure to check out the book! It's even better.
