Today is September 10th. Today is also 95 degrees. So while the date may signal the beginning of fall, the weather reminds us all that summer is still determined to scorch our dreams of crisp strolls in the leaves for at least the next week or so.
All hope of fall dreams are not lost, however, because of the saving grace of air-conditioning! We can all feel like fall this weekend by cranking up the AC, throwing on a flannel, and binging all fall things (whether that be apple pie, PSLs or autumn-related movies). Here are some of my suggestions for what to watch to fall into the mood of fall:
1. When Harry Met Sally
In addition to being arguably the best romcom ever made, When Harry Met Sally depicts New York City dressed in its fall colors. As Harry and Sally fall in love during all the seasons, the film dwells on their time in autumn to showcase the trees changing in Central Park as their friendship changes to romance.
2. The Cider House Rules
This 1999 drama film features Tobey Maguire, Charlize Theron and apple picking. Plus, it's set in Maine and cider is in the name. Add any more fall and it would look like an L.L. Bean ad.
3. Good Will Hunting
Matt, Ben and Boston -- what great scenery! The film's setting in academia also ties into the start of the school year, so it's basically studying, right?
4. Silver Linings Playbook
This film stars Bradley Cooper and J-Law (can you say power couple?) and highlights the football fandom that so many associate with the autumn season, so it definitely earns a spot on my fall movie queue.
5. Sweet Home Alabama
This Reese Witherspoon romcom shows that fall is not just a northeastern phenomenon! Beautiful southern mansions and fall fairs punctuate this fun flick about a girl going back to her roots. I suggest watching this film while eating anything deep fried.
6. A Bad Halloween Movie
I personally loathe Halloween and therefore refuse to recommend one Halloween movie specifically, but I mention this genre because this list had way too many romance movies on it! So if you're feeling very single and still want to pretend it's fall, I suggest watching a bad Halloween movie.
