6 More Things I'm Grateful For This Year

Because this year is still trying my patience.

Earlier in the year, I created a list of 6 things that I was grateful for so far in 2016. Since this week is Thanksgiving, I figured it would be a good time to make another list of 6 more things that I am grateful for this year.

1. Meeting Bruce Springsteen

I literally am still in shock that this happened and it has been 2 months since it happened. I am so happy that I got this experience and had the opportunity to meet one of my idols. If you would like to read more about this experience, you can read my article about it here.

2. Starting the process of my writing career.

I have always loved to write, but have been very shy about sharing it. So when my professor told me that my story was worthy enough to be published, I was astonished. While I don't know whether or not the story will actually get published by the first literary magazine I sent it to, I am so grateful to even have the opportunity to have my writing be considered.

3. Going outside my comfort zone.

I am an extremely introverted person and when I get comfortable around my close friends then I tend to just stick very closely to my little group. However, this year, I am putting myself out there more and opening myself up to new people and experiences that I never would've had if I had just stayed with what was easy and comfortable.

4. My school going viral for yet another deer incident.

The fact that this is even real blows my mind. Not only has DeSales had a deer jump through the classroom window, we recently have gotten even more attention for a deer running straight into a track and field runner during a race. Thankfully, the runner is okay, but the video has certainly been entertaining.

5. My health.

Seeing as both sides of my family have a medical history that is enough to give even the most skilled doctor a headache, a year without any major health scares is a solid year to me. Even if you have a clean bill of health, make sure you are always getting regular check ups and if anything seems off, go to a doctor right away.

6. My friends and family.

Especially around the holidays, which are always a difficult time of year for me, I am grateful to have my friends and family around me and the love and support that they always give me.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
