In the beginning you’re skeptical about the 20-something year old, bad-ass that is Fiona Gallagher, but soon you learn to love the Slum-Queen, who kicks ass without wearing makeup I might add. You relate to her because she’s a struggling girl in her twenties, but you hate her for landing and then losing every single HOT guy that seems to just fall in her lap. Fortunately, she manages to dig her own grave and then pull herself back up and not let is phase her, and for that we can learn many things from Fiona.

1. You Don’t Need Anyone To Help You.

Fiona is the result of a bi-polar crazy mother and a deadbeat, drunken father. She somehow manages to overcome all the things that are thrown at her and realizes she doesn’t need Frank or Monica (the lovely parents) and raises her five younger siblings on her own. Independent and definitely a little crazy.

2. Sleeping Around Doesn’t Make You A W****.

This badass has zero regrets when it comes to sleeping around with all the hotties that slide their way into her life. “First date Fiona” is the queen of casual sex and with her crazy lifestyle who could blame her? (Lets be honest though, we all miss Jimmy.)

3. Your Friends Are Important.

With all the crazy things going on in her life, Fiona always makes time to keep up and check in on V and Kevin, who in return are always there for Fiona when she’s in trouble. Your friends are your family, and that's never been more true than in Fiona's situation.

4. Going Bra-less Is Totally OK.

How many times do you see this girl put on a bra after rolling out of bed? Very rarely that’s how many. Free-Boobs are the best boobs.

5. Get To Know Who You’re Dating.

This is a given for everyone, but come on!! Who marries someone after knowing them for two weeks. Having constant sex and locking yourself away in your man friends apartment for days on end isn’t a good way to get to know someone. You deserved the song Gus wrote about you, sorry not sorry.

6. NEVER Go Back To Your Ex.

Jimmy? Steve? Whatever the heck his name is. He will always be Fiona’s downfall, and I’m sure we haven’t seen the last of him. He messes with her head and pulls her back down to her past every time he comes around. Just goes to show that when you break up once, you should stay that way! Also, Fiona might have Kim K beat on the whole ugly crying thing...

Though she’s not the best caregiver for her siblings, she’s definitely trying her hardest and you can always see that (except for when she almost kills Liam). Fiona is a bad-ass and deserves some credit for all the good things she does. Again, she is only 20-something, and no one has it together in her 20’s.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
