11 Life Lessons My Dog Taught Me

We may teach our dogs to sit and shake, but they teach us far more than simple tricks. Whether it's proving to us that staying in a good mood can make any day better, or that sometimes taking 6 naps is the only way to make it through a day, these little guys hold a lot of knowledge.

1. Rain or shine, there's never a bad time to go outside.

Making time in your day to go outside and soak up some sun or listen to the rain is a nice way to destress and take a step back from all of life's craziness.

2. If you act like you don't like your food, people may offer you treats.

No I don't love meatloaf, but sure, I'll take you up on the cake you're offering.

3. Sometimes the best way to comfort someone is to just listen.

Not every instance requires feedback, and not everyone finds comfort in advice. Just being there for someone can be enough.

4. Prepare yourself before taking a big leap.

It's always a good idea to assess the situation and make sure you know what you're getting into before fully committing.

5. No matter what obstacles you run into, shake it off and keep going.

It's okay to hit a few bumps in the road, but it's not okay to just stop trying. When you run into an obstacle, regroup and continue with the same enthusiasm.

6. Unconditional Love.

This is the one that dogs are known for, and for good reason. They teach us always to forgive and always to be there for those we love.

7. It's okay to take a day off and stay on the couch.

Everyone deserves a breather sometimes, and if that means you need to recharge by watching Netflix and taking multiple naps- go for it!

8.Loyalty is worth more than you think.

Loyalty is another characteristic that dogs are known for, and it might be an underrated one. We never realize how valuable loyalty is until it's not there.

9. Just because you're alone, doesn't mean you have to be bored.

Dogs are the masters of self entertaining, and we can only hope to be as good at it as they are. It's important to value alone time and understand how to be alone without being lonely.

10. Don't judge a book by its cover.

Looks can be deceiving. Just because someone looks like they may be tough, doesn't mean they don't appreciate compassion, and just because someone looks sensitive doesn't mean they can't handle the most trying challenges.

11. Stop and smell the roses.

Remember to take time to appreciate the little things.

It's not immediately obvious what dogs are capable of teaching us, but once we look a little closer, there really is a lot we can learn from the coolest pets in the game.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
