We all have that one show that fills our brains with the information we need to get through everyday life. "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" is one of those. Here’s a few reasons why
1. If you are confident on the outside, good things will happen.
Truth be told, if you exude confidence, you will find that others will be drawn to you. Karma works in funny ways. If you have a positive attitude about life and yourself, good things are bound to come your way. Trust me. Trust Kimmy.
2. You have to listen to your gut.
Contrary to popular belief, your gut is the smartest organ in your body. I don’t care what your brain or heart says, I promise that your gut knows better. Your brain is too cluttered by organization and facts to deal with real life, and your heart is too hopeful and naive to make real decisions. But your gut… your gut knows exactly what is going on and how to respond. If your gut is telling you to eat a PB&J sandwich, do it. If your gut is telling you to go skydiving for your 21st birthday, do it. But most importantly, if you’re in a situation that you’re unsure of what your decision should be, listen to your gut. It always knows the right answer.
3. Or you can stand up, and say "We're different and you can't break us."
Never let anyone or anything break you. You is smart, you is kind, you is important. The moment you stop believing that is the moment you give up your freedom. In order to truly live a happy life, you have to be strong. Stand up for yourself. Don’t let anyone walk all over you. Make your own decisions, and own them.
4. Changing your outside isn't going to fix what's wrong inside.
I know that this is kind of hypocritical to the first life lesson, but just hear me out. Confidence is key, definitely. But in order to exude confidence, you have to believe it. Inside and out. If you are at one with yourself, and truly believe what you are putting out into the world, things will take a turn for the better. What goes around comes around.
5. I learned a long time ago that a person can stand just about anything for 10 seconds.
To make better sense of this, I’m going to include a quote that I couldn’t find a good enough gif for. “Just take it ten seconds at a time. Everything will be OK,” Kimmy sid.. If you are going through a tough time, or you feel yourself about to have a mental breakdown, close your eyes, count to 10, and take a deep breath. I promise, your mind will be emptied and your stress will dissipate. You’ll feel so much better, and you’ll feel like you could tackle anything.
6. Smile until you feel better.
A smile can go a long way. If you convince yourself to be happy, and surround yourself with things that make you smile, you will in turn become a happier person. Take all that negativity out of your life, and just smile. Life is way too short to be sad all the time.
In conclusion, Kimmy Schmidt has taught me a lot about myself and about the world. If someone who survived 15 years in a bunker can move on and be happy with her life, so can I, and so can you. You have it good, I promise. Keep your chin up, and binge watch the first two seasons of "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" on Netflix. I promise you won’t regret a single moment.
