6 Lies The Devil Tells Us, And Why They're Not True
Couler

If you're a Christian, you know that often times the Devil attacks after you've found victory in God. It's as if Satan has some sort of alarm that goes off when you're feeling really good in your faith walk, and just like that he pounces. He strikes with one heavy blow, and suddenly all the progress you've made comes crashing down. Lies, lies, lies swarm around in your head, and you've never felt further from God. How could this happen? Weren't you just with me, Lord? He was, and He still is. The Devil just works this way. Jesus tells us in John 10:10, "The thief (Satan) comes only to steal and destroy." There is good news, though. The rest of John 10:10 reads, "But I came that they may have life and live abundantly." The Devil may come to destroy us, but there is life in Jesus and His words. Therefore, here are a few Bible verses that put Satan's lies to death:

Satan's Lie #1: "God doesn't love you."

John 3:16: "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him shall never die, but have eternal life."

Satan's favorite thing to do is tell us that God doesn't love us, but if our Lord didn't love us, what's the point of Jesus? Our Savior's love for us is so radical and grand that He literally took on our punishment at the cross. Jesus died for us when we didn't deserve it. If that's not proof of love, than I don't know what else is.

Satan's Lie #2: "God doesn't want you because you're too dirty."

Luke 5:32: "I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."

When you sin, you feel dirty. However, it's the dirty people whom Jesus calls. Our Savior came down to earth specifically for sinners (aka. All of us). That means that whatever you've done, whatever mistakes you've made or will make, you can still find refuge in Jesus. He wants you. He came for you. He'll cleanse you. He loves you.

Satan's Lie #3: "You must prove to God that you're worthy of His love."

2 Timothy 1:9: "He has saved us and called us to a holy life, not because of anything we have done but because of His own purpose and grace. This grace was given to us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time."

The whole point of Jesus' death and resurrection is that we don't have to "prove" ourselves to God. Should we obey God and try to stay away from sin? Yes. Should we do this in order to prove that we deserve a spot in Heaven? No. Instead, obedience should come from an intense love for Christ and what He's done for us. It's like a form of worship. No one will ever be able to fully, perfectly "prove" themselves to God. That's where Jesus and grace steps in.

Satan's Lie #4: "God has forgotten about you."

Luke 12:6: "What is the price of five sparrows? A couple of pennies? Yet God does not forget a single one of them. And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don't be afraid; you are more valuable to Him than a whole flock of sparrows."

God doesn't forget any bird He creates, so what makes you think that He's going to forget about you? He knows every single strand of hair on your head, every single speck of color in your eyes. He made you. He knows you. He's not ever going to forget about you.

Satan's Lie #5: "You shouldn't confess your sins to anyone."

James 5:16 "Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective."

God favors community. Why else would he create a helper for Adam? The same goes with us. He encourages us to be vulnerable with one another, opening up about our sins and struggles. After this does the real healing begin. Therefore, find a group of godly friends who love you. Confess to them, and pray together. God will start to heal your heart in surprising ways.

Satan's Lie #6: "You don't have any power over me."

Luke 10:19: "Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you."

When God gave us the Holy Spirit, He gave us authority. This means that we have the power to do what Jesus did. We can cast out demons. We can heal. We can live intimately with God, and we can certainly overpower the Satan. Therefore, when we hear these lies, we can cast Satan away in Jesus' name. Satan is attacking in a war that has already been won by Christ. Don't forget that. Stand your ground, lean on Jesus, and cast the Devil out!

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
