6 "Impossible" Things To Remember To Do Every Day

If Alice could do it, so can you

Instead of being a great college student and not procrastinating on my homework, I like to reread my favorite literature and this week's lucky novel was Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. That book offers so much wisdom, but my favorite line in the book is when Alice says "Sometimes, I believe in as many as six impossible things before breakfast." All the things that she deemed impossible were actually possible. Yes, in reality, there is not a potion that will make you shrink if you drink it, but I do believe that sometimes we get so stressed and overwhelmed that we forget what we're capable of and forget who we are. Sometimes, we just need a reminder of all the things that we can accomplish in a 24-hour time period so that we can conquer our list of "impossible things." Here are my six impossible things to:

1. For starters, you woke up this morning.

You made it through the night and have been granted another day to fulfill your purpose. So get out of bed and get after it. Do not let anyone stop you because ultimately, your fate is in your hands.

2. Laugh a little.

You may be stressed, upset or worried about something, but sometimes you just need to laugh. It is necessary. So take a deep breath and try to find something to make you smile. I'm sure there is some science behind that, but I know for a fact that it helps your soul.

3. "Smile and Wave, boys."

The Penguins of Madagascar may have been trying to sabotage the zoo and escape, but I view this slogan more as a don't let the small inconveniences dictate how you function for the rest of the day. Just smile, wave and move on, because things could always be a lot worse.

4. Take care of yourself.

This is extremely important. Take care of your physical and mental states. Work towards a healthy life in every aspect of your life, and this starts by finding things to enhance yourself daily. Treat yourself sometimes.

5.Find the beauty throughout the day.

Stay aware of everything around you and acknowledge the beauty and the art in everything you see. You have a chance to respond to the negatives in life by finding the postives so make an effort to try.

6. Remember to stick to the course that you're passionate about.

Some mornings when I wake up, I feel stuck. I feel like I'm repeating my days and weeks and they are beginning to blend into one. Wake up, eat, school, work, sleep, then repeat. But in the end, I have to remember that I'm working towards my goals every day. So, continue to work hard and the pay off will soon be near.

Remember these six things, and all things impossible will become possible in the blink of an eye.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
