1. "Kleenex"
When you're sick in a Hispanic household we don't ask for
tissues but for Kleenex. It's not that we prefer that brand it's just what we
call tissues. It’s the same as saying Chapstick when what you really mean is
medicated lip ointment. So don’t forget to stock up on these. And when you tell
us Hispanics to stock up on them we will probably show up with 10 boxes.
2. "Vivaporu"
This is literally the antidote for all things in a Hispanic
household. Whether you're sick, have a bruise or a cut, Abuela or mom will
tell you to try Vivaporu aka Vick's Vapor Rub before anything else. Don't just
lightly apply, dab a generous amount on before mom or abuela do it for you.
3. Jengimiel and Emergen-C
Jengimiel and Emergen-C are your cough and vitamin go to
essentials. These are the first things you begin to take to see if your cold
will go away. Sometimes you even take Emergen-C beforehand just as a
preventative measure.
4. "Sopa"
Its either pretty bad or they want you to just feel better when they whip up the ingredients to make a delicious sopa. This is a must have to eat when you are sick in a Hispanic household. This is isn't your ordinary chicken noodle soup. this soup has various vegetable such as pumpkin, potatoes, carrots just to name a few and various other ingredients that are the right balance guaranteed to make you feel better. The soup is even perfect for a cold winters day.
5. "Canada Dry" and "Galletas de Soda"
"Canada Dry" and "Galleta de Soda" are
what we turn to when you just aren't that hungry or you have an upset stomach.
The Ginger Ale is proven to help upset stomachs but this carbonated, spicy
goodness can be used for any potential malady — and it tastes fantastic, so why
not? As for the soda crackers they're light, crispy, and have absolutely no
flavor, but the blandness of these crackers is exactly what makes them amazing
and the best part is you can keep the tin afterwards for all your compartmental
necessities.
6. "Alcanfor"
Alcanfor is a must as the great thing about it is its strong
odor that is useful in preventing illness. They white camphor blocks can be
bought at the local pharmacy and can be seen on any window sill or sometimes hidden
throughout various places of a Hispanic household.
