Now generally, being sick is a horrible experience. My worst nights i wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. You can't breathe, your throat is on fire and everything seems to be going in slow motion. There are quite a few perks to it, though, that almost makes it worth the experience.
Sleep
Sleep is something that you may not get regularly when you're healthy, but I guarantee you'll be getting it when you're sick. Sleep all day and all night and nobody can say anything to you because you're sick and that's what you're supposed to do. ( and if they do you can threaten to sneeze on them and they'll probably leave you alone.)
Nothing Else Matters
You get a few days to do nothing but take care of yourself. Work and school don't matter because if you go you'll get everyone else sick. You can be as lazy and anti-social as you want because you're sick and that's what's important.
You Get Your Own Servants
If you're lucky enough to have people who care about you like a mom or spouse, you probably don't have to lift a finger until you're better. Need more soup? Let them get it. Cold? They'll get you a blanket. Out of tissue? No problem they brought extra. It's true love if they can deal with your constant whining.
You Don't Have To Do The Things You Don't Want To
I've been sick for about two weeks and I haven't cleaned my dorm since I first started sneezing. The only reason I wash my clothes is because I can't go to class naked.
Drugs
NyQuil may be forbidden fruit when you're healthy, but it's liquid gold when you're up all night dying. I'm not condoning abuse of cough syrups but I would say that is the best thing about having a cold.
Getting Better
When you wake up one morning (or night if you take enough NyQuil) and suddenly you can breathe out of BOTH nostrils for the first time in a long time. It's the best feeling that we wonder why we ever took it granted.
I know that some people can't afford to stop everything over a little runny nose. I surely can't spare more than a day before I'm behind on everything. But if you HAVE to work through it be sure to take your time, get plenty of fluids and take care of yourself. You can't work if you're in the hospital.
