Valentine's Day is coming up and this day elicits a lot of emotions out of people. Some people love it, some hate it, other people could care less. A lot of times, people's reaction to this day depends on their relationship status at the time. It's easier to be more excited about a day centered around love, when you have a significant other. Though this holiday, that some people would argue is a just a capitalist scheme, is focused about love for anyone. So if you have a significant other or not, show someone special in your life: you parents, siblings, best friends, roommates etc. that you love and care about them. The stereotypical gifts for Valentine's day is flowers and chocolates....we can do better than that people. So here are some unique gifts for your loved ones this Valentine's day.
1. A love letter.
A love letter is the perfect way to express your admiration and love for someone. Sometimes it's awkward and uncomfortable for people to sit down and tell the people they care about and just gush over them. It's a lot easier to write your feelings down. A letter is also great because the person can constantly look back at it.
2. Chick-Fil-A chicken box.
Y'all. The future is now. If the people in your life aren't huge on CFA, you can do another kind of food. The concept of filling a heart shaped box with something that your loved ones enjoy, is genius and weird, but I'm here for it.
3. Not just roses.... but their actual favorite flower.
Let's do a drinking game, take a shot every time you see someone walking out a Harris Teeter carrying roses for their S/O. Actually don't do that, you would legitimately get alcohol poisoning. I personally love flowers, but if someone were to just get me roses because that's the thing to do, that wouldn't really mean that much to me. If someone knew my favorite flowers, and got me those, or even got me flowers with a reason like "they reminded me of you" or "I thought they would look nice in you apartment," I would love it. Roses have become such a stereotypical go-to gift that implies no effort. Don't be that person. Put in some effort for your loved ones.
4. A donation to a charity.
Nothing is better than showing love to the people you care about and charities at the same time. A lot of people don't see donations as legitimate gifts, but they are. Donations to charities doesn't mean you copped out and couldn't think of anything good to get them. You could get them a donation to an organization thats important to them, it shows that you love and support the things they care about.
5. Bake them their favorite dessert.
Even if baking comes naturally to you, it's time consuming, and a lot of time the recipes cause for a lot of ingredients. So it takes a lot. Baking someone's favorite dessert really shows that you care because not only do you know their favorite dessert, but you took the time it make it and not just buy it.
7. An adventure you can do together.
Material things are fine, if it's something they really need, or something they've been wanting for a while. Though a gift of a trip or an activity that you can do together makes memories, and is something that you do together. It can be an activity that you guys both enjoy, or something that they've wanted to learn for a long time.
Instead of dreading this holiday, take it as a time to show someone you love how much they mean to you.
