6 Fictional Characters Who Would Be Great Presidents

In a little over five months, we will elect the new president of the United States of America. In all honesty, none of the candidates are all that promising, but let's not get into all that. Instead let's think about who we ideally would like to run our country if anyone we wanted to could do it, even if that someone happened to be a fictional character. Here are six fictional characters who would be great presidents, along with why I think it is best to go ahead and elect them over the real-life candidates.

1. Aragorn from "The Lord of the Rings"

His platform: "Deeds will not be less valiant because they are unpraised."

Why We Should Elect Him: This guy's leadership skill is undeniable. He led all the armies of man in battle against the forces of Mordor and won time and again before Sauron was finally defeated. The above quote emphasizes his willingness to do good and not worry about getting attention for it. Every celebrity and politician you see today is always like, "Look at me, and look at the good things I'm doing! I'm so wonderful!" Aragorn would do a great job as president and he wouldn't care if anybody ever knew it or thanked him for it. Plus, he's a king!

2. Professor Minerva McGonagall from "Harry Potter"

Her platform: Loyalty. Loyalty to her students, to Dumbledore, to everyone she cares about.

Why We Should Elect Her: While Dumbledore may be the obvious choice for many, it was McGonagall who consistently showed the students of Hogwarts just how much she cared about them. Dumbledore was too busy planning for the eventual defeat of Voldemort and watching over Harry to really spend time with any of the other students. McGonagall successfully took charge of the school during the final battle of Hogwarts in the Deathly Hallows and displayed awesome leadership and great tactical ability in helping organize the defense of the castle, and contributed a lot to the fight herself, by bringing to life the statues and armors and even the school desks. We'd never have to have a standing army again, she'd be a great president!

3. Professor Charles Xavier of the "X-Men" series.

His platform: Peace among all humanity.

Why We Should Elect Him: He's a fantastic negotiator, an excellent leader and the world's best teacher. Electing him president would be the best step toward world peace we could take. His ability to understand and identify with every side while still remaining in the right would be perfect for foreign policy. His leadership of the X-Men would transfer well over to being the chief executive, and as a teacher, he could just train his own successors, and we'd have great presidents for years, just like great leaders of the X-Men.

4. Mon Mothma from the original "Star Wars" trilogy.

Her platform: Freedom for all.

Why We Should Elect Her: She co-formed the rebellion with Senator Organa of Alderan, and after that planet was destroyed, she became the primary political leader of the rebel alliance against the Empire. She also helped plan the Battle of Endor, which led to the death of emperor Palpatine and the dismantling of the Empire. War is no good, but when we have to deal with it, there would be no better person to have in office.

5. Steve Rogers/Captain America.

His platform: Goverment surveillance isn't freedom, it's fear.

Why We Should Elect Him: He may be a soldier through and through with no desire for the kind of power the president has, but power is best left in the hands of those who don't want it. There's no doubt he'll stick to what he believes and stand his ground no matter what, and his leadership will ensure everyone follows his lead.

6. Batman

His platform: Justice must be served.

Why We Should Elect Him: Firstly, can you just imagine Batman with an unlimited, top-secret defense budget? No country would ever dare mess with America again, and you'd see world peace within a week. And if any genocidal types caught war fever, Batman would ensure they where taken down and locked up, quickly and silently.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
