I, like most people, have bad days. Those days that follow Murphy's Law: if something can go wrong, it will. Those days where you just want to come home, grab a bag of chips and a soda, and hide in bed for the rest of the evening.
In the interest of not eating my own weight in chips, I usually choose to play some uplifting songs and have a small jam out session because music can make everything better.
But you have to have the right kind of music to listen to. You can't just break out "She Will Be Loved" by Maroon 5 and expect the negative feelings to go away.
You need upbeat music. You need jamming music. You need empowering music.
1. "Roar" by Katy Perry
Katy Perry is best known for having some of the best upbeat music that is light and fun! This song is probably one of her most empowering songs that makes you feel so alive and happy at the end of it. It is definitely a pick me up.
2. "Best Day of My Life" by American Authors
For those of you that love Alternative music that has a folk music feel to it, anything by American Authors is a go to. They have some of the best music for a dance session, and it will leave you feeling better in minutes!
3. "Stronger" by Kelly Clarkson
We all have those days that just about kill us. Those days that make it so hard to ever want to leave your bed again. This song by Kelly Clarkson is a wonderful reminder that what doesn't kill us, will make us stronger. I love listening to this song when I feel like I have just about had enough.
4. "Don't Stop Believin'" by Journey
This is arguably one of the best classic songs to get down to when you feel like giving up. This is just one of those everyday, feel-good songs.
5. "Shake It Off" by Taylor Swift
Even though I am normally not a fan of T-Swift, this song is far to catchy to pass up when you want to dance. It also serves as a great reminder that we should just "shake off" the negative people and feelings in our life.
6. "Come On Eileen" by Dexy's Midnight Runners
Most of us recognize this song from the movie The Perks of Being a Wallflower but this song is great just by itself. It has a great beat and lyrics that are easy to sing along to- it's no wonder Emma Watson had so much fun dancing to it!
There are going to be bad days. There are going to be days that suck. But the most important thing to remember is that music can easily influence emotions, and it's one of the best remedies for a bad mood.
Some times you need to get rid of a bad day, bad feelings, or bad people.
Sometimes you need to dance it out.
