If you’re like me, you love to shop. Clothes, jewelry, home décor, anything, really. And if you’re really like me, you like to know that your money is going to more than just some chain store that will inevitably use your money to make more chain stores. The following companies are organizations that you can spend your money at, get amazing products and still end up donating to worthwhile causes.

1. Pura Vida Bracelet Company

I am a representative for this company (I just love it so much) so if you use the code MARISSAUMBLE20, you’ll get 20% off your order!

Don’t let the name fool you- it is way more than just a bracelet company. While it started out selling bracelets that were handmade by artisans in Costa Rica, this company now sells swimsuits, beach towels, accessories and clothing too! Every bracelet that you buy turns a profit for not just the company, but also the artisan in Costa Rica that made it. They also have a charity tab on their website so that you can see just bracelets that donate to charities. Most are unisex- men can wear them too. The bracelets are also super cheap! Check it out here!

2. Toms Shoes

Most people know this company as the company that donates a pair of shoes to a child in need with every purchase of a pair. However, Toms has also partnered with Oceana to donate to save Sea Turtles as well! Check it out here!

3. Ivory Ella

Ivory Ella makes T-Shirts, other clothes and jewelry all printed with an elephant design. 10% of all profits go to Save the Elephants, which is a non-profit organization that does exactly what it says it does- works to save the elephants. Check it out here!

4. The Polar Preserve

The Polar Preserve is much like Ivory Ella. Their products come in fun colors and are printed with Polar Bears on them! A portion of the sale from every t-shirt goes directly to polar bear conservation efforts. It not only preserves the polar bears, but also the climate in which they live. Check it out here!

5. Better World Books

Every time someone purchases a book form Better World Books, a book is donated to someone in need. They even sell textbooks! They are partners with many non-profit organizations, including Books for Africa, National Center for Families Learning, Feed the Children and Room to Read. Check it out here!

6. Project 7

This is a specialty gum and mint company that gives back to the seven areas of need (hence the name Project 7). This company donates to feed the hungry, quench the thirsty, heal the sick, house the homeless, save the earth, teach them well and hope for peace. Products are available through Amazon and Amazon Prime. Check it out here!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
