6 Existential Questions That Will Ruin Your Day
Psych Central

Existential questions are those weird questions you find yourself asking when you are in that weird part of your brain that you don’t like talking about. Have you ever thought about life in a way that made you question your entire existence? Do you ever think too deeply and you wonder how you got on that train of thought to begin with? Well, you just purchased a ticket on the train ride of a lifetime. I am about to blow your mind with 5 more existential questions for you to think about when you can’t sleep at night.

1. There is no real reason that the alphabet is in the order it is in

We are taught that the alphabet starts at “A” and ends at “Z,” but why is that? Who made it so that the alphabet was in that order? Why is it wrong if we say it out of order?

2. Everyone on earth has a backstory

We pass by people every day and we don’t stop to think that all the people we walk, drive, run by have an entire life all to themselves. I think about this a lot when I am in a car on a highway and I look over to the opposite four lanes flooded with cars. Each person in the cars all have a full, interesting life that I know nothing about!

3. Does everything really happen for a reason?

Do you ever wonder why your day went how it did? I recently questioned this and it made me think for quite some time. If I didn’t buy that strawberry acai refresher from Starbucks, would I be writing this article now? How do I know that I am making the right decisions now to positively impact my future?

4. Are we the only other beings in this universe?

This is an age-old question that I feel gets asked a lot. If we are alone in this universe, is that not as equally terrifying as NOT being alone in the universe? How will humanity every find out if we are actually alone?

5. Every step in your life has led you to read this very sentence.

This one really messes with my mind. What are the odds that every step in your life has resulted in you reading this sentence? You have no control over your brain freaking out right now because you are questioning why your life has come to this realization.

6. Every year we pass our own birthday and celebrate, but we also pass our death day

I must admit that this one is kind of freaky, but it doesn’t mean you should feel depressed. Think of this as an eye-opener and that you shouldn’t take every day for granted. Be happy with the life you were blessed with. There is a positive in every day you have had in your life even though sometimes it doesn’t feel that way. Don’t take anyone or anything for granted because you don’t know when it will be gone forever!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
