6 Different Nights You Could Have This Weekend

What kind of night will you have?

You've been slaving away all week doing work, going to practices, and trying to stay awake in 8 a.m. classes, when it finally happens, the weekend! The anticipation of this weekend has made it possible for you to make it through your last class of the week and now its time to let loose. As my father always said, work hard and play hard. But what are you going to do this weekend?

There are a few different types of nights you can have in college:

1. Frat Night

This night has a couple of different parts. There is the prep stage where you fuss over the details of your hair, outfit, and listen to your favorite music. Then the pregame at whatever random or not so random dorm room where intense pump up music happens. After you're drunk enough to not need a beer from the crowded frat bar comes the trip to the frats; which tends to be an adventure in itself. Once you're in the frats its a bunch of trashy fun music to dance to. And after a night at the frats, anything can happen...

2. School Planned Event

Every college has alternate events that they plan for people who either are not a fan of the frat scene or want to try something different. At Trinity, there is painting and roller disco and a thousand other very fun alternatives to the frats. Some people write off the school planned events as being lame but honestly they can be better than a night at the frats in so many ways.

3. Chill Night In

This night is self-explanatory. Get some good friends and some fun conversations. These nights are some of the best you will have because in all honesty being around awesome people will make anything you do fun.

4. Drunk Dinner/Movie Night

This is the night where you plan to go out for dinner and drink and talk about everything. Or the alternative is that you get drunk and watch some amazingly ridiculous movies on your little computer propped up on your refrigerator with some cool humans. Either way, you are drinking and being with people you love.

5. Netflix (2 a.m. Adventure)

Sometimes this crazy thing happens when you decide to have a night in and just curl into a ball and watch Netflix. What happens is that everything has been calm and cool until one of your friends who went out gives you a call and tells you they lost a shoe and can't remember how to get home. As a good friend you jump out of your bed and get ready to save your friend and have an adventure.

6. Let's Just See What Happens

If you're like most college students you don't really have a set plan of what you're doing until about an hour before you're supposed to leave. However, since I happen to be a planner it has been hard for me to just wing it on nights that I want to be really fun.

Here's a secret you probably already knew: When you don't plan things the night can turn out better (or worse) than you could have thought!!! What I've found is that it's worth the risk of a "bad" night because sometimes the universe works and everything goes right.

What I will say is no matter what kind of night you end up having, surround yourself with great friends and any night could be one that you talk about for years. Keep in mind, in 30 years no one remembers the night that they got a good nights sleep.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
