It's easy for dates to get a little repetitive, especially if you're in college and/or have limited funds. If dinner and a movie is your go-to, check out this list of date ideas for something new to spark your interest. Even better, most of these things are free or can be made very affordable!

1. Go to a state or county park

Even if you don't realize it, there is probably some kind of state or county park near your town! State parks are great ways to get outside and appreciate your surroundings. State parks have a lot to offer: camping grounds, hiking trails, biking trails, or even geocaching. Bonus points if there's a lake or river in your park; most parks have canoes and kayaks available for rent!

2. Do a photo scavenger hunt

This is a great last-minute date idea, or one for when you're really strapped for cash--all you need is your phone and each other. Make or find a list of objects/themes and set out to wow each other with your photography skills! You might even discover some new things in your area. When you're done, put all your photos together in a slideshow and compare!

3. Do a food crawl around your town

If you and your significant other are self-described foodies, why not do a food crawl around your city? Order a couple appetizers from as many restaurants as you wish, hopping from one place to the next. If you're really looking to mix it up, only go to places both of you have never been before, or make every restaurant a different kind of cuisine. Finish off with dessert at a local creamery or your favorite tried-and-true restaurant.

4. Go to the farmer's market

Going to the farmer's market is an automatic way to make grocery shopping more fun! Support your local farmers and artisans by making some purchases there instead of your neighborhood Wal-Mart. You might be surprised at some of the good deals you find!

5. Volunteer together

Find a cause that you and your significant other are interested in and sign up to volunteer together! It can be a fun and rewarding way to spend time together. Volunteering to pick up litter or to serve food at a homeless shelter can give you time to not only talk to each other, but also to make connections with those around you.

6. Plan and make a fancy dinner together

This date is particularly fun if one of you likes to cook. Plan out a five-course meal together, making it as simple or extravagant as you wish! Go to the grocery store together and pick up everything you need...then get cracking! Put on your favorite playlist and start prepping the food together. What better way to try out all those recipes you've been saving on Pinterest?

The library. Club lib. The place every college student goes when they want to try and be a productive member of society. Who better to explain your experience than Parks and Rec?

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
