Winter has finally arrived, and for many couples that means falling into the routine of cuddling up in bed and watching Netflix almost every day. Although it's always nice to spend an entire day in bed watching rom coms, there are so many winter date ideas that go unnoticed. Winter opens up the door to so many creative date ideas. It definitely takes more thought than dates during nice weather, but that makes it even more fun! Here are a few of my personal favorites.
1. Mall Dare
There are tons of Mall Dare ideas floating around the Internet, or you can come up with your own! Some of the funniest ideas I've heard include asking for change for a nickel and emphasizing that you want it all in pennies, pointing and looking at the ceiling for a few minutes and seeing how many people you can get to look, and running into a store and asking what year it is and then yelling "it worked!" Come up with a method for keeping score and a prize for the winner. Sure this is something that many of us did as middle schoolers, but I can guarantee it'll get you both laughing until your stomachs hurt.
2. Cooking Date
It's nice to cook a meal for your significant other, and even nicer to have them cook for you. But taking an evening to go grocery-shopping, cook, and eat dinner together is the best of all. Bonus points if you look up a new, unique recipe that neither of you have tried to make before. Even if it doesn't turn out as planned, you'll have a blast doing it.
3. Blanket Forts
Building blanket forts was always fun as a child. You and your friends would push chairs and couches together and hang blankets and sheets to make your own miniature castle. Well, I'm here to tell you that building blanket forts is just as fun as a grown up. Throw some pillows and blankets in there and hang up some fairy lights, and you have a romantic big-kid blanket fort. You can even stick a TV in there to put a cute spin on the usual Netflix night!
4. Game Night
Gather up all of the board games, card games, puzzles, and anything of the sorts for a night of fun. Set up rewards for the winners, like a 10 minute back massage, or penalties, like loser buys pizza. Throw in some snacks and you'll be occupied for hours.
5. Go to a Winter Festival
Most cities have Christmas festivals in the winter, such as a tree-lighting ceremony. And a lot of times these things are free! Doing festive things with your significant other during the holidays can be super romantic, even if you're just walking through a neighborhood to look at the Christmas lights. Snap some cute pictures while you're at it, because who doesn't love cute holiday pictures.
6. Scavenger Hunt
This is another thing that you can find plenty of ideas for on the Internet! Surprise your significant other with the first clue, and spend the day setting up and solving clues. You can plan it around a romantic date, or do the entire thing from the comfort of your own home. You can even just make a list of things to look for, and get in the car and drive until you check off everything on the list! This is one that you can definitely personalize, so plan it around what you and your significant other like!
