Every year, people sit in anticipation as Christmas approaches. Then, Thanksgiving is over, and it is time to start decorating for Christmas (except for those people who decorate right after Halloween). For the holiday season, neighbors compete, family members argue, and stores get crowded. However, there are many perks and traditions to the Christmas season. While some traditions may seem unconventional, others are shared all around the world. Whether you’re from a small town or a big city, you probably see these traditions every year.
1. Christmas Tree.
Probably the most common tradition all over the world, the Christmas tree is one of the most famous symbols of Christmas. Whether it’s a fake tree or a real one from the great outdoors, Christmas trees are a holiday tradition.
2. Christmas Music.
From You’re a Mean One Mr. Grinch to Jingle Bells, you probably hear these songs a hundred times before Christmas even gets here. However, they’re so catchy, you can’t help but sing along.
3. Candy Canes.
This may not seem like a tradition to some people, but I believe it is. They’re handed out in front of stores, hung on Christmas trees, and they're delicious to eat. Even though it may seem unconventional, candy canes are one of the main symbols of Christmas.
4. Santa Claus.
As a child, you probablu went to the mall to see Santa. He was fat, jolly, and always knew how to put a smile on your face. As you become an adult, you’ll take your children to see Santa. Even though we grow up, we still include Santa Claus in our Christmas traditions.
5. Christmas Meals.
For most families, Christmas dinner is their family meal. Everyone gathers around the table, the children have sleepy smiles on their faces, and the table is covered with delicious food. While some families may do different meals, the idea stays the same. For example, instead of doing Christmas dinner, my family does Christmas brunch. We go to my grandma’s house around 10 am, gather around two tables (my family is pretty big), and stuff our faces. Christmas meals may seem crazy, but they allow us to spend time with the ones we love.
6. Christmas Caroling.
This tradition used to be extremely popular, but it has declined in recent years. People, mostly church groups, would go door to door and sing beautiful Christmas songs. Sometimes, the groups even wear matching outfits. While this isn’t as popular as it used to be, Christmas caroling is still a Christmas tradition.
Even though you may not do all these things, they're all Christmas traditions. They are shared all over the world, and they make Christmas the amazing holiday that it is. However, there are also many traditions that aren’t as common. Many people have family traditions, and they can be very unconventional. Whether you celebrate Christmas on the actual day, the day before, or even two weeks later, your Christmas traditions make the holiday so much more personal. Without traditions, the holidays would be boring.
