1. Dominion
Dominion is one of my favorite games of all time. This card game is all about building up your “Dominion,” which is the game is your deck. Starting with three cards, a mixture of currency and victory cards, you gradually buy and use cards that combine with one another to produce interactions between your dominion and the dominions of your opponents. The truly unique part of this game is the satisfaction of building your deck by hand-picking the cards you think will help you most in collecting victory.
2. Magic: the Gathering
What's a list of great card games without the infamous MTG. Best known for its ability to drain your bank account, Magic is a viral game. While a bit difficult to get started, the excitement of high-level play and involvement may be well worth it for those with the endurance and the cash.
3. Munchkin
If a deck of cards and Dungeons and Dragons had a baby, you'd get Munchkin. Work with or against your friends at defeating monsters and leveling your character. It's a quirky little game with a ton of puns. Special note: buy the Sketch Edition and draw your own cards. It's well worth the time to think up some funny drawings for the already hilarious cards.
4. Uno
A classic. No explanation needed.
5. Fluxx
Pirate Fluxx, Zombie Fluxx, Adventure Time Fluxx, yadda yadda. Who the Fluxx cares? It's all good. It's real simple. Start out with a few cards and two rules: draw a card, play a card. Play cards to change the rules and the goal. It's a bit of a mess, but there's no frustration.
6. Cards Against Humanity
It’s dirty and totally inappropriate, but there’s a reason this is on here and Apples to Apples is not. If you’re already familiar, try playing the Rando Cardrissian way.
