If you are a college student who attends the lovely Indiana University, you know a thing or two about the Big 10, the parties at IU, and sharing the weekend stories over Sunday brunch. I am here to hook you up with the best brunch places in Bloomington, so get ready to feast.
1.Village Deli is always packed. For a good reason too- it’s delicious. You can pack your pancake with all the fillings you can think of and they are really flexible about what you can eat. Some breakfast places have “no substitution” rules, but Village Deli does not confine you. The entire establishment screams, “I’m hung-over, please feed me.”
2. Runcible Spoon is also packed all the time. Unlike Village Deli, they are open all day and have great dinner food as well. Runcible Spoon isn’t a fan of substitutions, but make up for it with their extensive food menu, tea and coffee menu, and cozy atmosphere. They also serve mimosas and Bloody Marys by the pitcher.
3. Uptown Café has a wonderful brunch menu. This establishment is a little swankier so going there in pajamas is probably a no. They offer sweet, savory, and creative dishes. The crème brûlée French toast and Mexican inspired dishes are absolutely to-die-for.
4. Rainbow Bakery is a vegan bakery in Bloomington, which offers a quick menu but is still delicious. There is definitely a stereotype that accompanies all things vegan but I’m here as your trusted foodie to tell you: go for it, everything is great! I recommend the blueberry lemon donut.
5. Farm Bloomington is my all-time personal favorite brunch place here in Bloomington. Farm has an eclectic and upscale atmosphere that’s hard to recreate, but they do a bang-up job. The food is another story. Their brunch menu is creative, mouth-watering, and often times special since they create new menus for events like Valentines Day or the Holidays. They have breakfast pizza, and mouthwatering biscuits with house-made jams, so if you go there thinking you’ll eat light, just throw that idea out now.
6. The Owlery Restaurant serves Sunday brunch from 10-3. They offer some great options accommodating vegetarian and vegan patrons. Bloomington is known for its eclectic culture, and the Owlery is no different. You can find things like pancakes, breakfast scrambles, and home fries.
Regardless of bodily state (hung-over or not), these options are all great for all tastes and budgets. As a sophomore, I can confidently say I have been to all of these establishments and encourage all students to add these to their Bloomington culinary bucket list. Bon appetit!
