CNBC ranked Minnesota as the happiest state in America. As a lifetime resident of Minnesota, I'm entirely supportive of this fact, and I do believe it is the best state. No question. One of the best things about Minnesota is fall - tailgating parties on Sunday mornings, Honeycrisp apples, and the breathtaking change of colors make this season in Minnesota irreplaceable. Here's a list of (some of) the best activities to do this fall in the land of 10,000 lakes.

1. Football Season

Football season really signifies the beginning of fall. As a University of Minnesota student, Saturdays are always Gopher game days. There's nothing quite like walking into a stadium filled with maroon and gold and cheering the Gophers to victory. And Sundays for Minnesotans are dedicated to attempting to cheer on the Vikings.

2. Apple Orchards

The honeycrisp apple was developed at the University of Minnesota and is grown largely throughout apple orchards in Minnesota, and most orchards across the state will allow you to pick your own apples. They not only offer this benefit, but many orchards will also have hayrides and small petting zoos as well. Don't forget to stop by the gift shop for the ever-so-famous apple pie.

3. Pumpkin Patches

Some pumpkin patches will have rides, petting zoos, or other activities, but all pumpkins patches will give you the opportunity to pick the perfect pumpkin for your needs. Whether you're carving them for your front doorstep or in need of a pumpkin for a pie, you can always find the perfect one at one of the patches.

4. Sweater Weather

Fall in Minnesota allows me to experience my favorite weather. The sun with a slight breeze in the air makes for a perfect environment to enjoy all the events listed here. It's also a great time for the sweater, legging, and birkenstock/sock combo.

5. Halloween Celebrations

Anoka, MN lists themselves as the Halloween Capital of the World. With events throughout the entire month of October, the celebration is worth attending. Additionally, Valleyscare, an extension of the amusement park Valleyfair, adds additional aspects to the theme park during the Halloween season such as haunted mazes and monsters hidden throughout the park. SCREAMTOWN and Trail of Terror are two additional spooky attractions in Minnesota for fun weekend entertainment.

6. Scenic Landscapes

With over 50 state parks throughout Minnesota, a wide exploration opportunity exists. For a small portion of fall, when the leaves transform into fiery colors, the scenic views from state parks becomes absolutely breathtaking.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
