6 Best Netflix Shows Of All Genres
Huffington Post

Whether you're sick of your usual Netflix go-tos, looking to switch it up or trying to get in as much 'Netflix-time' as possible before the school season rolls back around, take a look at this list for some inspiration!

1. "Being Mary Jane"

Not many people have heard of this show, but it is gaining its popularity on Netflix. It's best fit genre is drama. This show is an empowering show that shows woman how they can be independently successful. It shows a woman breaking all boundaries to be successful in her reporting career. Onscreen Mary Jane looks like she has it all together, but at home her life is just as crazy as everyone else's!

2. "How I Met Your Mother"

Some people would call this a classic on TV and on Netflix. But those who haven't taken the gander to watch it definitely should. The genre is comedy while all at the same time there is a story being told about every single one of the main characters. The cast is a friendship group that everyone strives to have in their lives and they make it even more enjoyable to watch.

3. "Friday Night Lights"

If you didn't grow up in a small town like the cast of this show did, then you will have wished you did after watching this series! This show is a drama, but also shows a certain reality of small town high school football players' dreams and realities. Each individual character's story from season 1-5 lead viewers to want to know more and more with each episode.

4. "American Horror Story"

Don't let the title scare you away. While the genre is a little bit more on the horror / suspense side, it is not as scary as the title makes it out to be. The term I would use to describe this show is 'intriguingly weird.' Everything that happens in each separate season is completely out of the ordinary, but it keeps viewers wanting more. It does follow a story line which is also nice. Also, each season uses the same characters, but takes place in completely different places.

5. "Orange Is The New Black"

All the hype on social media and TV doesn't give this Netflix original enough justice. This perfect drama / comical series is one you will never get bored of. It shows the behind the scenes of a women's prison and the daily activities and drama that goes along with that. With the new season having just come out, this show is sure to be one to not miss.

6. "One Tree Hill"

Another series that travels with each character from high school to their lives after high school. This one focuses on two brothers' love and talent for basketball. The genre is definitely drama and will have viewers sitting at the edge of their seat through the different twists and turns. If you watched "Friday Night Lights" from this list, then this is a definite second to watch after.

Happy watching!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
