Let's face it: Queen Bey runs the world. For more than a decade, Beyonce has created some of the most memorable tunes and established herself as a powerhouse pop icon. While I never get sick of Bey's jams, sometimes it's cool to hear another spin on her music. Here are some of the best covers of the queen's classic songs.
Florence and the Machine – "Halo"
As if Florence wasn't celestial enough, she decided to cover Beyonce's most angelic song during a session with BBC Radio's Live Lounge. Florence proves she is from another world with this cover, and I'm pretty sure an actual halo formed around her noggin as she sang this. The ethereal singer's powerful vocals are a perfect match for "Halo."
Rachel Crow – "If I Were a Boy ft. The Johnsons"
You will be left in absolute awe of this girl's talent after listening to her rendition of this classic Bey song. I mean, c'mon. She's like 15! Rachel Crow first covered this song on the X Factor during its first American season in 2011. A couple years later, she performed this amazing version. This cover proves her artistic maturity and raw talent. I still can't believe how young she is.
John Mayer – "XO"
One of my favorite artists covering another one of my favorite artists' songs is just pure bliss. I can't believe I didn't hear this until a few weeks ago. John Mayer adds a folksy vibe to the song that is just so different from the original, but it works. The accordion gives the cover an authentic feel. Not only is this probably my favorite Beyonce song, but this is probably my favorite cover on this list.
Leroy Sanchez – "Love On Top"
This is a perfect display of Leroy's effortless talent and love for music. While he first appears to just be goofing off in his room, we soon see why this video has millions of views on YouTube. Personally, I think this is Bey's most fun song to dance and sing to, and Leroy shows his joy for music in this.
Sofia Karlberg – "Crazy In Love"
This is a cover of the remix Beyonce did of "Crazy In Love" for the "50 Shades of Gray" soundtrack. This version gives a whole new air to the famous Bey jam. However, you probably won't be busting a move to this one. Sofia gives a mysterious and sultry vibe to the song, which takes on a whole new life with her passionate vocals. This reminds me of Yael Naim's cover of Britney Spears' "Toxic."
Drew Tabor – "6 Inch"
I would imagine it is hard to make a Beyonce song sound like your own, but Drew Tabor does exactly that in this cover of "6 Inch." I would not describe Beyonce as an alternative or rock artist, but Drew makes her song sound like it was written for these genres. I enjoyed the edginess and simplicity of this cover.
Ed Sheeran – Drunk In Love
Ed Sheeran with an acoustic guitar singing "Drunk In Love." Need I say more?
Even if Beyonce is not your cup of tea, there is something for everyone on this list. From folk to alternative to acoustic, this diverse group of artists proves that not only are Queen Bey's tunes relevant to different types of artists, but they can transfer across genres.
