We are all guilty of having bad habits.. biting our nails, snacking, eating too much candy.. the list goes on and on. But some of the bad habits, we don’t even know are bad habits, but can hinder our natural beauty. Here is my list of bad beauty habits to avoid (in my personal opinion):
1. Touching Your Face.
Touching your face can transfer bacterial, dirt, and oils that can clog pores and can even lead to acne. I commonly find myself throughout the day resting my chin in my hand. The less you touch your face, the cleaner it is, and the better your make up will look throughout the day as well. Though it’s hard to leave alone, picking at marks on the face just makes it worse and can lead to scars.
2. Sleeping With Make Up.
Ladies, I am guilty of this. You get home from a long day of classes, or work, and by the time you lay down in your comfortable bed, you’re ready to close your eyes and drift off. But without properly taking off all the make up, your skin can’t breathe the way it needs to while you sleep. Your skin goes through a lot throughout the day, collecting dirt and oil, and keeping make up on will clog the pores as you sleep. Your face will not appreciate the skipped skin care in the morning. Using a make up remover, and a mild cleanser will clean the skin and allow your skin to breath through the night.
3. Not Using a Moisturizer.
Washing the make up off, and cleaning the skin is the great first step. But after cleansing the face properly, using a moisturizer will keep your skin feeling soft and hydrated. Everyone’s skin is different, so finding a moisturizer for your individual skin type (oily, dry, mixed...) is essential for great skin care. There are even moisturizers that include sunscreen and keep your skin protected from harmful sun rays.
4. Not Getting Enough Sleep.
Using concealer to hide the dark circles under your eyes, can be decreased if you get enough sleep. As busy young adults, sometimes we tend to get minimal sleep. Juggling between classes, work, and picking up groceries, we all have busy lifestyles. However, sleep is extremely important. Taking the time to plan for getting an ample amount of sleep is immensely beneficial. In fact, quality sleep will lead to healthier, radiant looking skin.
5. Not Drinking Enough Water. Water is so important for your body. Water keeps you hydrated, can prevent wrinkles and keep your skin looking naturally healthy, something make up cannot do. So many people drink a full cup of coffee in the morning, and forgets to drink water throughout the day. Coffee, tea, and soda, can be high in sugar, and cause other complications in the body. Water is all around nothing but beneficial.
6. Not Properly Cleaning Make Up Brushes.
Using brushes to apply make up is a great tool to blend and shade. However, over time these brushes become dirty and a great place for bacteria to grow and when you apply make up everyday, your skin could be spread with bacteria. Similarly to touching your face, bacteria can lead to acne and other complications on your skin. Keeping your brushes clean will keep your make up clean and help to keep your skin clear.
