As a Disney fanatic, I am constantly searching for the little-known secrets of the company. Walt Disney was a brilliant man who started an empire based on one little mouse. If you go to any Disney theme park, you can see just how beautiful his dream turned out to be. However, with every company, there are secrets that people forget about. One of these secrets is right in front of most people's faces! Many attractions that the older generation enjoyed when they were younger are now closed but have been left abandoned for five to ten years. Eventually, the abandoned attraction may be turned into something even better, but in the meantime, remnants remain inside untouched for however long it takes to tear it down. No one is ever sure of why Disney decides to just leave these attractions sitting, but it sure can give you the chills just thinking about some of these. Here is a list of some of the creepiest attractions Disney left abandoned:
6. The Peoplemover
With the 60s approaching,Walt Disney became devoted for new innovations for his upcoming Florida project EPCOT. In this project, he was inspired to create a whole city that was based on innovators. Basically, the idea was that innovators could live in this city that was built on everyone else's inventions. For example, if someone went to work and invented a washing the machine that day, everyone in the city would get a prototype to try it out. Disney was passionate about his idea, but after the board basically informed him they had no money for it, they settled for the themes parks they have today at Disney World. One of his inventions for EPCOT, however, was the Peoplemover. In his city plan, he was inspired to create a way to get places without any traffic. The Peoplemover was born and after Walt Disney's passing, Disney decided to incorporate this into the theme parks in Tomorrowland. After renovations to Tomorrowland in 1998, Disneyland decided to turn the Peoplemover track into a thrill ride called RocketRods. The ride failed, however, because of its structure issues. Two years late, it was closed for safety issues. 16 years late, you can walk into Tomorrowland and still see the remains of the tracks all over the park.
Disney has so many magical elements to it, and the company has a rich history for all theme parks. It has pushed so many limits and opened doors for theme parks that people would never think to open. Imagineers are always trying to come up with the newest thing for people to enjoy and we are all so fortunate to see these creations. The good thing about these abandoned spots is that there are always rooms for improvements. Whenever Disney see's potential in something old, they can make it ten times better. This is why I am so excited to see how Disney will transform these abandoned attractions; making them ten times better.
