I know what you are thinking, it's probably the same thought I had back when I was a naive high schooler who was ignorant of full-priced clothes; it's second hand. But trust me, once you embrace Goodwill you never look back.
Honestly, it also depends on the Goodwill. But chances are, you have a fully stocked one with tons of cool finds that will make you swear off buying anything for full price for life.
1. Business wear
Jeans: Hollister $5, Blouse: J.Crew $4
SERIOUSLY, people will literally donate anything to Goodwill. It's gotten a bad rep for having tacky sweaters and tourist shirts but I single handily bought my entire wardrobe for my summer internship from Goodwill with pieces from J.Crew, LOFT, and American Eagle.
2. Jeans
Jeans: American Eagle $5
Ladies, we all know how aggravating jeans shopping can be. All that effort trying on pair after pair only to come away with one pair anyway can drive anyone nuts, it made me decide if I was going through that ordeal I would at least spare myself paying top dollar. Jeans at Goodwill are $5 a pair, with people always donating their old Hollister's, American Eagles, Gaps, and Levi's.
3. Shorts
Shorts: Merona $4
Same thing with jeans or shorts, with shorts you even have a little more wiggle room to go crazy like these $4 fav I picked up last month. I still can't stop wearing them!
4. Big t-shirts/university gear
Novelty Hump Day Tee: $1.59
Need a new XL shirt to spice up your norts? Or maybe just want to show off some school pride with some new tees. Then head on over to your local Goodwill, alumni/transfers often discard their old staples at the end of the semester so you're sure to find an already broken in T-shirt for any occasion. Or maybe you just want to find some funky T-shirt with a personality of their own, (HUMPDAY) either way prices at Goodwill for these bad boys range from $1.50 - $3.00 so stock up.
5. Flannels
Flannel: GAP $3
Autumn is here and Goodwill has big comfy flannels at $4 a pop??? Hand me a pumpkin spice latte and sign me up.
6. Fashionably Tacky Sweaters
Palm tree sweater: Express, $3
And finally, Goodwill is always reliable for their trademark. If you need a tacky but cute holiday sweater, a cozy sweater just to lounge around your apartment or dorm, or even one that you really cannot resist passing up (see cover photo), Goodwill has got you.
As long as you follow my golden rule (buy it only if you can wash it) then you're good to go. Happy shopping!
