During my senior year of high school I read non-stop. Just when I thought I had been through all of the sappy, teen romance novels, one of my teachers introduced me to "Me Before You."
I was skeptical at first; I didn't think it really sounded all that great. Sad? Yes. Good book? No. So, after her recommendation, it took me awhile to get around to it. However, I am so glad I did because it turned out to my favorite book of all times. I have said that about a ton of books, but this one — I really do mean it.
I ended the book uncontrollably sobbing. I was sitting on the couch with my parents on both sides of me trying to console me, and I just could not get myself together. This book ripped my heart out, stomped on it a few times and then sadly put it back.
I expected no less from the movie, of course. So, here were my thoughts:
1. *sits in theatre seat already judging everyone in the room who has not read the book*
2. This movie better do the book justice.
3. If it doesn't I'm getting my money back.
4. Wow, Sam Claflin sure looks good in a suit.
5. And it's raining. He is in a suit. It's raining. He is so wet. Wow.
6. DO NOT STEP IN THE ROAD. I KNOW WHAT IS ABOUT TO HAPPEN.
7. I already knew this was coming, but wow ... that escalated quickly.
8. Louisa's character is even cuter in the movie than she was in the book.
9. How is that even possible?
10. I mean look at her rocking those tacky tights in a way no one else can.
11. And her smile is contagious. She is perfect.
12. *flashbacks from reading the book*
13. I am so not ready for this.
14. Dang it, Louisa. You accepting this job is already ripping my heart out.
15. Can Louisa and Will just fall in love already?
16. Well, not if he acts like that a**hole the entire time.
17. I'm still angry about his ex-girlfriend.
18. With his best friend. I mean really Alicia?
19. I'm not complaining, though.
20. Louisa is way better anyways.
21. *still waiting for Louisa and Will to fall in love*
22. Hold it together, Devin. Nothing sad has even happened yet.
23. *dies a little more with each second that passes*
24. Dang. Look at her rocking that red dress.
25. YOU GO, LOUISA!
26. Will Trainer is just "being a man that went to a concert with a girl in a red dress."
27. I am dying.
28. It's happening.
29. They love each other soon.
30. *thinking about how I can vicariously live through a fictional relationship*
31. I swear, if one more Ed Sheeran song plays in the background I am going to lose it.
32. That's it. I'm done. I'm walking out.
33. I can't do this.
34. Oh, god.
35. The wedding scene is even better than the concert/red dress scene.
36. Look at how precious they are dancing together.
37. *dies*
38. I can't decide which one Louisa looks prettier in: the concert scene or the wedding scene.
39. Definitely the concert.
40. Wait, no. Definitely the wedding.
41. Or just the whole movie because she is perfect. That sounds better.
42. I'll go somewhere with you, Will Traynor. Just me and you, baby.
43. *still tries to avoid the inevitable ending*
44. Really, Ed Sheeran? I'm trying not to cry and these songs aren't helping.
45. This getaway is perfect. Just what I needed to cheer me up.
46. Wait, no. .. maybe not.
47. I am losing it.
48. Yup, I just lost it.
49. I'm crying harder than Louisa is at this point.
50. Push through, Devin. Only a few more minutes.
51. Is it over yet?
52. Great, the Switzerland scene is coming.
53. *pulls out tissues*
54. *continues to sob uncontrollably*
55. I so wasn't ready for that.
56. Time to repair my heart now that my whole life is in shambles because of this movie. This is totally not OK.
"You only get one life. It is actually your duty to live it as fully as possible."
Live boldly. Live well. Just live.
