Most of the time, we receive compliments about our appearance. Don't get me wrong, giving compliments about someone's attire and looks can brighten their day. It can put a smile on someone's face and make their day less gloomy. However, there are other compliments that can be given and that can make a bigger impact on a person's life. Receiving compliments about your character or general being tends to mean more than any compliment about a new shirt or makeup look. Personalized compliments are the things that stay with us and are ingrained in our memories.

In fact, receiving compliments that don't involve people's appearance tend to be more memorable and meaningful. One reason for this is because we can change our clothes and outward look. We can get changed into a new shirt or wipe off the current layer of makeup and reapply something new. However, we cannot change who we are without sacrificing the most important aspects of our being, including our happiness. When you compliment someone on their personality, you are bringing attention to the innate aspects of your friends, family and strangers. Personally, I would rather receive compliments about my personality or work ethic instead of something superficial like appearance.

I challenge you to start complimenting people around you on their actions and character. Remind them that they are an amazing person. Tell them how much they are appreciated. Thank them for their hard work, dedication, and kindness. Simply say the things you think about but have never verbalized.

By being honest and genuine with your compliments, you will slowly make a difference in the lives around you. You never know who is struggling. Your best friend could be having trouble at home or with their own mental health. There are some battles that people fight alone with their thoughts. Having your support will help them, regardless of if you know you are helping them or not.

Start out easy by giving a single compliment a day, and increase as needed. These random acts of kindness will make a difference in the lives of those around you and in the world. Do you know why? Because kindness is contagious. One act of genuine kindness takes off like a rocket and spreads like wildfire from there. By being positive and kind, the people around you will begin having better days. More so, your mood will improve due to your changed mindset.

Therefore, change your life today. Here are 55 compliments that you can give to those around you to improve their lives. Start making personalized compliments too! Make them special for those around you because that will mean the most. Good luck!

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.
