2016 is quickly approaching its end, and the new year is upon us. There are a few things to remember as we approach this next chapter in our lives.

1. New Year's resolutions.

Okay, so it's now that time of the year when people are going to start making their new resolutions...while being fully aware that they did not complete their resolutions this past year. Now, I am completely for setting goals for yourself., whether they be short term or long term goals. In fact, I have some of my own. However, I do not go broadcasting them all over Facebook the week before a brand new year, so that my friends can see what I will not accomplish this year. So, this said, please do not be that person on Facebook who posts a bunch of bogus resolutions for the new year; because, honestly, it is nearly impossible to keep these up for a full year.

2. "New Year, New Me"

Okay, another thing to refrain from is saying this. It is not going to be a "new you" simply because you say it. To truly improve yourself, you have to work hard at it. It's not something that you can say and expect for it to be true. Most people who post this do not actually become a better version of themselves simply because they say it is so. If you want to become a better version of yourself, do it, but don't post a picture saying "new year, new me", it's simply frustrating to see these posts on your feed.

3. Leave ALL bad feelings in 2016.

Don't go into 2017 harboring bad feelings. Forgive and forget, start the new year with a fresh outlook. There's no reason to go into a new year holding grudges. Don't start the new year out with hard feelings towards family or friends. Also, don't start the new year out being unhappy. Let go of anything that is making you upset or that no longer makes you happy. Go into the new year being happy and ready for a fresh start.

4. It's time to go into the new year with an open mind.

Go into 2017 with an open mind and an open heart. There's no telling what this future year is going to hold. It's going to be full of changes and new opportunities. It's going to be interesting, and you should go into it ready to face new challenges and to experience new adventures. Go into 2017 with a want for new knowledge.

It may be sad to see that another year has passed. However, it is also amazing to know that another year is right around the corner. 2016 was a year where there was not much love, and 2017 should be different. Enjoy the rest of 2016 and have a happy New Year!

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Stop Hollywood
