It is crazy how fast time flies. I feel like it was just yesterday I was a nervous freshman being dropped off at my dorm and now it is already the end of freshman year. Going fourteen hours away from home was at first extremely nerve racking. I was so excited to start a new chapter of my life, yet going into a new environment knowing no one was a tad intimidating. All my initial fears quickly dissolved when I stepped on campus and immediately fell in love. From the warm weather, to the southern hospitality, and the scenic campus it didn’t take long for TCU to feel like home.
One of the best parts of freshman year was forming so many incredible friendships. Joining a sorority introduced into an amazing group of girls to start my college experience with. Although rush was stressful, it was all worth it in the end when I became a new member to Pi Beta Phi. Through Pi Phi, I found a group of friends that are one of the biggest blessings in my life. No matter if it's having someone to make a late night food run with, someone to vent to, or someone to study with, they are always there. In addition to my friendships through Greek life, I have made so many other amazing friendships outside my sorority. In one year I have found my go to people, lifelong friends, and future bridesmaids. I am excited to see my friendships continue to develop in the years to come.
Freshman year also allowed me to grow as a person. Since the beginning of the year, I have become much more self confident. I have learned to love myself and be proud of the person I have become. The best part about college is that there is so much you are able to get involved with to help you develop as a person. Being a person that loves to be overly involved, I have been able to harness my passions by getting involved in Dance Marathon, intramurals, Connections Leadership Program, writing for the Odyssey, and working for TCU Phonathon. Being involved gives me a sense of purpose. I love knowing that even as a freshman, I can make a difference.
Academically, this year has taught me that in order to get the results you want, you have to work your butt off. Studying in college is nothing like high school and requires so much more time and effort. Although this was learned through a few all nighters due to my terrible procrastination and stressful late nights in the library, I now am very satisfied with the student I have become. Despite my uncertainty about my career path, freshman year is the time to explore and discover what you like and don't like. I know that through my experiences in the classroom, I will soon gain clarity for my future.
I cannot believe my freshman year has already come to an end. For any incoming freshman, this is going to be the best and craziest times of your life; cherish each and every second of it. Despite my sadness that freshman year is ending, I can’t wait to see what the next three years have in store. Thank you, freshman year for the amazing friendships, crazy memories, and being truly an unforgettable year.
