Odyssey

Oh 500-word format, you are the greatest of greats. Oh 500-word format, you are by far the most dexterous of Odyssey’s genres. When we don’t have much to say, you are there for us. When we have to quickly write an article for fear of a strike, you come to our aid. Oh 500-word format, you are the greatest of all formats.

Oh 500-word format, you care not if we repeat ourselves, only that we get our point across. Oh 500-word format, you are the solution to an empty vat of ideas. After the week has long died away, and the deadline looms overhead, you swoop down and carry us writers to safety, oh 500-word format.

Oh 500-word format, you are so versatile. You allow humor, quick tips, and a whole range of others- just as long as we meet your word requirement. You even allow for an ode to yourself, but you are most worthy, oh 500-word format, to receive thanks and praise for the many lives you save weekly from the wrath of the editors.

Oh 500-word format, great as you are, I struggle to find more words to say. But I will continue praising your name, and singing of your great deeds, oh 500-word format. Do not cast me away from your sight, but see me as a lowly scribe, a muse, who only but desires to edify your greatness.

Oh 500-word format, you bring us news, and you give us advice. You are the perfect format for the busy college student, in both writing and reading. Lengthy articles think they are so much better than thou art, but their ramblings and musings do nothing but to put off their readers, and stifle their writers.

You have but a kind offering, a burden that is easy and light. Let all of Odyssey sing of your greatness, and let you be exalted as the highest of all formats! Writers, editors, members of Odyssey from universities across the country, give your thanks to the 500-word format.

Our time is but short, and our ends are drawing near, so let us make haste and make our positions known. But let us not put off our readers by writing lengthy articles on metaphysics. Instead, write your ideas concisely and clearly, using the all great 500-word format.

We all are unalike, and our backgrounds diverse. We speak in different tongues, and hold a spectrum of political opinions, but the 500-word format unites us as one. From the Atlantic to the Pacific. From the Gulf to the Great Lakes, the 500-word format lords over us as the pinnacle of the written formats.

So as we bring our praise to a close, let us not forget all of the times the great 500-word format saved our skin. We shall always remember the great deeds and kindness of the 500-word format. Whatever you write about, and from whatever angle, the 500-word format will be there to help you.

With that, I have reached 500 words.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

Being pre-med is quite a journey. It’s not easy juggling school work, extracurricular activities, volunteering, shadowing, research, and MCAT prep all at the same time. Ever heard of “pain is temporary, but GPA is forever?” Pre-meds don’t just embody that motto; we live and breathe it. Here are 10 symptoms you’re down with the pre-med student syndrome.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.

One Book Made Me Question Existence In Its Entirety

"The Stranger" by Albert Campus touches upon many heavy elements... but not in the way you expect. Although it touches upon the aspects of death and love, it also deals with a hidden philosophy similar to that of nihilism.

The story follows the short life events of Meursault, a Frenchman whose carelessness for his actions eventually ends him in jail and dependent on a jury of people to judge the ethicality of his decision and the punishment that he deserves. He eventually gets the death penalty and all throughout he is nonchalant and almost apathetic towards his situation. He finally snaps when the prison sends a priest to him to absolve him of his sins and to cajole him in confessing to the lord.
