The first time you come home after leaving for your freshman year of college is a well-earned reprieve from dorm life and midterms. You have your bedroom back, a bathroom you don't share with strangers and home cooked, non-dining-hall food for at least a couple days. Here are some thoughts you have when you come home for the first time freshman year.

1. "I'm home!"

2. "I'm exhausted!"

3. "What? Parents? Talking?"

4. "Where's my bed?"

5. "There's my bed!"

6. "Where's the bathroom?"

7. "OH MY GOD A PERSONAL, PRIVATE TOILET!"

8. "A bathtub!"

9. "God, I love bath bombs."

10. "This fridge! It's so big! And full of food!"

11. "Do I remember how to use a stove?"

12. "No."

13. "A microwave that actually works! Yay!"

14. "I wonder what all of my friends are up to..."

15. "Oh, they're still at school."

16. "Okay... what should I do now?"

17. "Let's go back to high school!"

18. *Walks into school* "Wow, this is weird."

19. "Remember that time I [embarrassing action] over there? Good times."

20. "Let's go see my favorite teachers!"

21. "Hello Mr./Mrs. [Teacher name]!"

22. "This is depressing and weird."

23. "Hello, younger friends!"

24. "See! It does get better!"

25. "But does it?"

26. "Is this better?"

27. [flashback to the past two months]

28. *Regret*

29. "Nah, still better."

30. "Time to go home!"

31. "Wait, [friend's name] is home?!"

32. "Lunch date!"

33. "I missed them so much!"

34. "I miss being home!"

35. "I don't want to go back!"

36. 300 missed calls from mom — "Where are you???"

37. "Oh no."

38. "Whoops."

39. "I changed my mind, I want to go back."

40. "Guess it's time to go home..."

41. "Mom made dinner? YESSS!"

42. "I love being home!"

43. "Home cooked food!"

44. "Dining halls are the worst!"

45. "Nothing to do...guess it's time for bed."

46. "This is too quiet and lonely."

47. "I miss my roommate."

48. "I miss having stuff to do."

49. "I'll miss my parents, but..."

50. "I want to go back!"

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
