Dear Mommy,
Over the past 19 years, we’ve had our ups and downs, but I wouldn’t be the strong, independent girl I am today without you. For that I would like to say thank you.
- Thank you for being my number 1 fan.
- And coming to every single dance competition.
- Even when it seemed like I didn’t appreciate your company.
- Thank you for forcing me to take hard classes.
- Even when I thought I wasn’t smart enough.
- And always believing in my abilities.
- Thank you for planning family vacations.
- Because they’re some of my favorite childhood memories.
- Thank you for telling me I look beautiful no matter what.
- Even when I’m wearing no makeup and my hair’s a mess.
- Because I value your opinion more than anyone’s.
- Thank you for letting me make mistakes.
- And telling me that you’d always be there to support me.
- Thank you for reading to me before I went to bed.
- Even when you were exhausted from a long day at work.
- Because it engraved a love for reading in me.
- Thank you for packing my lunch.
- And doing my laundry.
- Thank you for making sure we always had family dinners.
- Even if we had orchestra concerts or softball games.
- Because family is the most important thing.
- Thank you for teaching me your Italian heritage.
- Even though I’m as pale as a ghost, I’ll never forget I’m 50% Italian.
- Thank you for yelling at me.
- Even though it sucked at the time.
- Because it taught me discipline and responsibility.
- Thank you for buying me gloves.
- Even when I lost one.
- And another.
- And another.
- Thank you for taking me to my doctor’s appointments.
- Even when you have to leave work early.
- Because you always put me before yourself.
- Thank you for teaching me life lessons.
- Like “never go to bed mad at somebody”.
- And “don’t lie; the truth will always come out”.
- Thank you for making me wear a coat.
- Even when it definitely was not cold enough for a coat.
- Because you care so much about my health and me.
- Thank you for paying for my college.
- Even when I came in as an undecided major.
- And then changed my major.
- And then changed it again.
- Thank you for making me laugh.
- Even though you think you’re funnier than you actually are.
- But I love you and your humor anyways.
- Thank you for being the best mom in the whole universe.
- And loving me unconditionally.
- Thank you for letting me go.
- And knowing that I’ll always come back.
